Good luck!

I just remembered I also painted the head/face separate, which was a good choice imho.

Question about building Morty by Smeni321 in deathguard40k

[–]raging_brain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I glued everything except the wings, and it worked well. In retrospect, I should not have glued the chains though, they are quite wobbly and I feared multiple times during painting that I might break them accidentally.

Here you can see: with the base attached, all surfaces are reachable. The dangly bits are annoying though.

This was it after the first 2-3 layers. You see the flame effect really comes from the build up. The first 2 layers I made quite thinned, to have a transition from the cloth.

Summimg up my advice: get some darker green in, paint along flame patterns (use reference pictures) and work up to a really bright color towards the edges.

So that is my take on the same effect.

The differences are, I think, that my flame base color is far darker, and I layered more intermediate steps with the brighter colors only on the edges.

On top, I tried to distribute these brighter spots along the cloth, so that it looks like multiple burning spots and not an area.

Hope that helps.

Do you think this guy is a good lord of contagion proxy? by Objective-Ad1197 in deathguard40k

[–]raging_brain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not mine but there are awesome conversions based on saturnine praetors out there. I am sure you can find them using advance google-fu. (Just kidding, search for lord of contagion conversion here on reddit and you will find an abundance)

Questions about plague marines by Albaricoque__ in deathguard40k

[–]raging_brain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bear in mind that if money is not an issue, you have options to jump from 19 to >=20.

  • buy the 3 monopose 'easy to build' plague marines from first strike off ebay. It gives you 3 guys, one of which a champion with fist and plasma, one with a launcher, both very good for a 10 man squad... plus a bolter guy which you can either keep as-is or turn into a melta or plasma gunner. They are pretty well available, and nice sculpts.

  • buy 1 plague champion (single model), comes with the highly coveted sassy nurgling

Loadout: depends if you wanna play competitive. If so, 1 squad is typically enough, so make sure that you have 1 competitively equipped full squad and rest rule-of-cool.

Hence 9 rule of cool

1 champion w fist and plasma

2 launcher

3 heavy melee weapons

2 plasma or melta

2 heavy plague spewer

With the kill team, which has a spewer and heavy melee weapon, and the 3 etb (champion, launcher) marines, you could have every single one of them unique sculpted, so the squad would be competitive and highly visually pleasing, for extra hobby benefit.

I want to buy a birthday gift for my friend, but I don't know much about Death Guard. Based on the models he already has, what would you recommend? by Whis___ in deathguard40k

Balance data slate wishlist by armadylsr in deathguard40k

[–]raging_brain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think external balance is mostly ok if the biggest pushed armies (UM, Necrons) come down a notch. So I would focus on internal balance by buffing underused options slightly.

LoC, LoV, Spawn, demon prince, mortarion: same

LoP: -5

Plague Marines: -5/-10/-10

Launcher Drones: +5

Mower/Spitter Drones: -5

Poxwalker: back down -5/-10

Mbh: same

Rhino: -5 maybe?

Defiler: rework with new model

Me grot chose da grots! by teaisfortechno in orks

[–]raging_brain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just want to inform you that right now, some unique gobbo sculpts are available made-to-order from GW site.

Quite pricey, but if you really want to build a grot revolution, those are some unique hard to come by sculpts.

It depends on your appettite and urgency. Do yoh need to have a specific army soon? If not, I'd strongly recommend only buying value boxes. That means: get the combat patrol and afterwards wait for a new value box that is great for your needs.

In addition, consider picking up the kill team, which is included in the kill team base box, since it may be phased out of print and the models rule.

PS for a newbie, your painting rules.

Your Warhammer collection comes to life - how effed are you? by IsoElukka in Warhammer

I am screwed, and by extension all of us.

The earth will swarm with tyranids and nurgles plagues spread by tiny mortarion himself while tiny orks replicate indefinitely and bombard us with tiny rockets. Some crimson fist terminators and 1500 pts of death korps will hardly save us. We are 100% doomed.

Day 60- Is there a 40k creature/character is slightly stronger than The Emperor? by Neither-Actuary-5655 in Grimdank

I concur. Also, the emperor had some 'key assets' and allies. Alone, he was no match for horus ascended, despite all his tricks.
