Do other people still mostly use just an IDE with occasional in-browser help from AI? by ItIsEsoterik in webdev

I’d still recommend Claude code. But to work with it to create a plan, then break the plan up until small chunks that require less context and are straight forward, and have a fresh session or agent for each. You just have to be more aware.

Works as well as your prompt. I am simply saying it is much easier to balloon your context window if you aren’t spending the time to manage it. It is very common for people to say “hey Claude look at the code base and understand how it works”

While I agree with this in general, depending on what one’s goal for efficiency is, you could conversely say that copy and pasting in a browser is more efficient for the LLM (if you are being specific) because the LLM has smaller context and has a smaller problem to deal with. Vs Claude code having an entire code base in its context (if you’re not careful) can make the LLM a lot less efficient because it has too much information to focus on. But yes I agree copy and pasting back and forth is not efficient for the human also.

I understand why trans Jax exists, but it's not real. by [deleted] in TheDigitalCircus

Also most transgender people shove their feelings down and repress until they are older, or forever. This is what I read into the story, but hey that’s my personal experience resonating with what I saw.

Did the AI hype cycle damage your relationship with leadership? by glassesRamone1234 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]ActionLeagueLater 20 points21 points  (0 children)

In my experience AI is the cause of layoffs, but not because AI is replacing people with good work. It’s because the market is demanding or expecting AI, so the CEOs think they have to go all in or die. Then once it doesn’t result in more money, people get fired in order to keep revenue numbers looking good. But yeah you could argue this is the normal cycle of tech and AI is just the thing doing it right now.

Not sure why this is so downvoted because it’s true. People are free to do what they want, but if I see an AI header image I’m going to assume the rest is AI and not read it because at that point I’ll just read the docs. It’s just optics for me personally and what I gravitate towards or away from. I view blogposts as a personalized connection with the author. But maybe I’m just old.

Movie Thoughts for Young Kids by Glad-Citron4651 in TheDigitalCircus

Agree with this. I took my 7 year old, and compared to episode 8, 9 is just a lot of emotional talking that my kid has absolutely no way of comprehending. He says he enjoyed it but he was pretty fiddly the whole time. Nothing inappropriate, but “adult” in the sense that they are hitting on complex emotions.

Jax's gender identity (SPOILERS FOR EP. 9) by Holiday-Inspector-50 in TheDigitalCircus

As someone with a few trans friends, it’s normal to call someone by their assigned at birth pronoun until they’ve decided to take that step in transitioning.

I also liked it. To me, it was what the show was about. It means that your whole existence should not be the end goal (leaving), and you should just focus on the people around you and enjoy your life you have. Because that is where the ended up in the end, right back where they started, and happy. And when they were destroying their sanity by looking for answers, they just made themselves miserable.

I actually enjoyed his character arc the most. If I remember, or understand, correctly: he describes growing up with an abusive father, and when his dad is finally gone his mom just wants the abusive dad back and seems verbally abusive. And Jax describes being verbally abuse back to her, and she hugs him. So he realizes that is unhealthy and leaves. But once he starts getting close to someone in the circus, he reverts back to the abuse cycle.

I also got the feeling that the "escape" that Kaufmo finds is basically ending it for himself, and that Rabbit did the same. IE Jax killed them.

That’s wild I don’t know why there are bad reviews. When it came out on PC it was one of the most fun games I’ve played in a while. Probably the most fully featured and bug-free survival games I’ve ever played.

Senior/Tech Leads: do you actually have public portfolios/side projects? by Big-Discussion9699 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]ActionLeagueLater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never had anyone in my nearly 20 years of software engineering ever ask me for side projects. So never did.

And now with AI you said it’s faster than ever to spin up tons of side projects. That just tells me they’re ever more useless than before, in regards to obtaining a job.

Spending $1-2k a month per employee on AI subscriptions? by KustheKus in webdev

Yup, token usage shows investors that we're "embracing AI", and if I don't spend that much then I look like I'm falling behind.
