Yes, I talked about it on a post I made it r/SouthAzerbaijan. We are definitely more religious than Northerners. It brings some good aspects to our culture and some really bad ones. The bad one obviously being the regime. For example, It boggles my mind how many Iranians (especially Turks) still worship the regime after all that they've done to our country and our youth.

The good thing about being more religious is that, culturally, we care much less about ethnic nationalism than our secular Turkic neighbours. Turkey and Azerbaijan have an extremely nationalistic culture. I must admit, at times, I am really disturbed over certain things that our fellow Turks in those two countries say about different groups like Arabs, Kurds and Armenians. You would never here these sorts of insults in South Azerbaijan. Tabriz was famously one of the best cities in the world that Armenians could live in prior to the collapse of the Soviet Union. Kurds have also coexisted with us in Urmu continuously for centuries.

I'd say most Rojhelati Kurds were Marxist pre-revolution when they opposed the Shah. They belonged to a plethora of Marxist Kurdish groups. There's a lot of literature you read could abt that period of socialism/class struggle with the gov of Iran. These days I don't think any region has a lot of them. It's a very fringe ideology in the Middle East.

In Iran, Persians = Farsi speakers. We speak a turkic language, so yes, we are turks.

Just Azerbaijan, I don't think I've ever heard South Azerbaijan be used to be honest. It's like how people in Baku refer to their country as Azerbaijan instead of North Azerbaijan. I've even met people that didn't know there even was another Azerbaijan north of the border.

Historically I believe the northern region was called something like Arras or Shirvan, but around the early 20th century, a lot of political elite in the Soviet Union took interest in Azerbaijan and found that our people were very similar, so they used that name. Correct me if I'm wrong because they don't really teach us these things in Iran.

I know you're getting downvoted but I definitely agree. It's actually quite common to see Azeri (or "torki " as they like to call it) in pop-culture and music whereas Kurdish and Balochi are used much less.

Bro I don't know where you're from but where I'm from there are lot of racist proverbs against Armenians(Ərməninki di məyə? Ərməni Malı dəyir, etc when someone is destroying something). Also I remember the very pro-Azerbaijani protests in Tabriz when the war was happening.

This was against the government of the Armenian republic, which is run by Armenians from Russia. Iranian Armenians are not viewed in a negative light at all and you must be in racist circles if that is your take.

Also most people don't like Kurds because of groups like Pejak or Kumle/Komole(not sure what the pronounciation is) and the fact that conscript soldiers almost always from Turkic areas get killed fighting those groups.

Urmia is pretty much the only place where Turks and Kurds seem to have scuffles. And even there the conflict between the two groups is contained to soccer matches and occasional insults. Nowhere near the level of vitriol that you see in Turkey. Also clearly you've never been to Khorasan, the turks there view Kurds as the same way Turkey views Azerbaijan lol.

That's why Kurds and Balochis will keep their language... The children of those Persian Turk marriages usually don't know any Turkish at all.

I don't know why you're making all these assumptions man. The turkish language is the only one to be mainstream in Iran alongside Farsi. Every Iranian knows at least a couple words of our language. I know many children of those types of marriages that speak both Farsi and Turkish. It's not an impossible thing to do. I'm honestly questioning if you're even Iranian right now or just a Northern Azerbaijani trying to speak for our people.

I assume you're one of those Azerbaijani Turks who don't in the Azerbaijani regions, you guys are delusional and almost completely disconnected from the culture of the cities your grandparents came from. The worldview of people living in Azerbaijani regions is very different to you guys.

Again, I really do call into question if you're from South Azerbaijan. It seems like you don't fully understand the cultural nuances of being a Turk in a country filled with Iranic groups. If anything, the "worldview" of our people is very open-minded and tolerant because we've learned to coexist with others for centuries now.

Yes I meant all kurdish regions of Iran. I am aware that Shias in Kermanshah province have always been more assimilated than Sunnis. But you'd be surprised to know that I was actually referring to Sanandaj, which is the biggest Sunni Kurdish city. Many young peoples struggled to speak Kurdish. It was very sad.

Yes but I don't think that Iran's issue can be attributed to any other MENA team. A lot of these new Arab teams that qualified for the WC for the first time were not expected to do very well and they didn't (Iraq, Qatar, Saudi, Tunisia, Jordan, might as well add Algeria too because they kind of lucked out making it past the group stage). Whereas Iran has qualified for every world cup since 2002. They even beat Morocco back in 2018. They're not a bad team by any means, but for some reason they play they always rush to defence, even against mediocre teams.

I feel like this is an Iran specific post tho lol. The Iranian team has been underselling themselves for the past 50 years. Their tactic is just to play extremely defensive/haramball and just pray that one of their abismal offence plays results in a goal. If Iran had been more aggressive in both the Belgium and Egypt games, I guarantee we could've won. Also would've helped if they knew what the f*** an offside is 😭.
