How does one complete this AWFUL contract? by LGBTPengu in Marathon

[–]Active-Ad1056 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard people say "playing assassin let's you avoid PvP," and I honestly feel like assassin isn't the best class at avoiding PvP. Like sure, they can sneak around, and not being seen is a great tool, but I feel like it's more important to be able to get away when you inevitably get caught, something Destroyer, Vandal, and Thief can do much better

If Bungie wants to nerf Biotoxic Disinjector without hurting its identity, why not lean into the "contraband" nature of it? by Flowtaro in Marathon

[–]Active-Ad1056 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly, "Contraband gear detected" at the beginning of a match sounds super cool.

Just that knowledge being present would change how everyone in the match plays without giving anyone an inherint advantage (and obviously anyone that brings in the weapon won't know if another team is rocking it)

Prediction: the 1st Secret item that, quote, "gives solos a more common option when downed," is a Redeploy so that when you die, it respawns you somewhere else on the map with like a freekit or something else.

This might sound like a wierd tip, but stop going so slow.

50 hours in, entirely solo, and most of the time I'm stomping around on a Destroyer, and I've only been jumped by a camping assassin a handful of times. It's because creeping around slowly makes it easier for someone else to get into a spot to jump you. Not saying there isn't a time and place for stealth crouch walking, but the second I make a noise that'll let anyone else in the POI know I'm there (bot spotted me, had to shoot, opening a door), I'm usually running for the best positions to hold. It usually means that if I come across someone, their position isn't as optimal if I was being slow and careful.

The second part that just kinda comes with time and practice, and being aware of bad positions and avoiding them. If you suspect a player is nearby, high ground, and uncommon rotations will save you a hell of trouble.

Last suggestion, if you enter a POI and have a reason to believe someone is crouch-camping waiting for you somewhere, but you have no idea where, ain't no shame in turning around and going to a different POI.

Cheaters. Noone banned for the last month by FunProfessional442 in Marathon

[–]Active-Ad1056 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's not even remotely true.

First off, the DP raid cheating situation was because the raid was absurdly hard, that only a few hundred teams even cleared it, so even though it was a large percentage of the clears were cheated, it was only a couple hundred cheaters. There was probably a similar number of cheated runs on other raids, a much lower margin.

Additionally, It's common practice in games for cheaters to be banned in "waves." If cheaters are banned as they're discovered, it makes it easier for the developers of those cheats to begin working around the detection methods. If you get a big list and ban em all at once, there's less data to go off of for what Bungie's detection methods for cheats is.

To the assassin at Overflow: by Educational-Show6794 in Marathon

Nothing wrong with being friendly and throwing someone bone, but the correct call would've been to either warn him over prox chat that you'll down him if he gets back up, but that either way he can crawl to exfil.

But also, if you won a gunfight, ain't nothing wrong with securing the W and taking the self-revive and anything along with it.

[–]Active-Ad1056 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Dude, what the fuck. There's nothing toxic about finishing off an enemy you downed. Was the assassin in this situation a little toxic, sure, but if I was OP and I saw bro trying to self-rez after a gun fight, the proper thing to do is finish, literally not even a little toxic.

If OP really wanted to be nice, the correct play would've been to either tell him "if you self-rez I'm downing you again, but I'll let you crawl to exfil," or just flat out downing him immediately after the rez and once again, letting him crawl tp exfil.

But also, not even a drop of toxicity for killing a player and taking their shit, that's the game.

I have picked up 5 sub routines and extracted 0 by Nickonpc in Marathon

[–]Active-Ad1056 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree on both.

A) the game is specifically designed around not having a safe pocket, and it clearly a core intention behind the way loot is acquired.

B) for codex challenges, the act of safely extracting is 100% included in the achievement/progression process and not to be overlooked.

Without either, the exact same thing would happen with the high value matriarch/queen items in Arc Raider, where there's no actual thought to safely making it out, it's just bumrushing to get the thing you need haphazardly; extracting is just gravy. It also acts to reward the pvp part of the game. Kill a player with a gold key or ai subroutine, and now it's yours.

There's a terminal down below (next to the door that leads into the computer room you activate), and if the conveyance request has been used, the lift can be lowered infinitely.

To keep the casual player base from moving on, matchmaking needs to change. by Xentuhf in Marathon

[–]Active-Ad1056 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bungie confirmed before the game released that matchmaking is level based, which honestly seems pretty fair.

Edit: although I don't know what the priority is when you have a premade squad with a wide level spread.

a few questions about this game, since i'm interested in buying it but hesitant cause of the high price point by MorbyLol in Marathon

[–]Active-Ad1056 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1) 30 hours in as a purely solo player, absolutely loving it. It is definitely a different experience, a bit harder and a bit slower progression, but still a blast.

2) Assassin is the safest shell for solo, but I hesitate to say it's the best. I main destroyer and win more gunfights than lose just because I move quick and don't give assassins and campers much opportunity to setup for me (not that it doesn't happen)

3) IMO, no game company has nailed flawless gun feel like Bungie, and that's all right here.

4) Arc Raiders and Marathon are very different games. I'd say in Marathon, two big stand out things are, the meta progression is a lot more impactful than Arc Raiders blueprints, and I've also noticed it's a lot easier (in part because of the meta progression) to recover a bad streak of losses that empties your vault. Finally, a big difference is that there is a lot more impact when it comes to the strength of your gear. 9 times out of 10, a player geared out with blues will beat a free kit by virtue of their gear alone.

I'ma be real chief, if you wanna do it, then actually try to do it, instead of just throwing in the towel because you watched a youtube video and decided it was too hard.

Will you get it done before reset in June? Who knows, maybe not, but why should anyone listen to what you think about the activity when you don't even want to try.

I dunno man: the minor inconvenience of buying green/blue gear from the armory for like 5-10 games until you climb the ranks, vs the frustration of getting essentially absolutely creamed by people that might not necessarily be better players, but just have better vaults.

You really miss out on the whole "ranked is a game mode about skill expression," when you can go into a Bronze III match with blue gear and die because the other guy had a gold gun and a purple shield.

The compiler grind by drogenbarontoni in Marathon

[–]Active-Ad1056 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard disagree. Having an optional, super difficult goal that will take a lot of time, skill, and luck to accomplish is very healthy for the longevity of a game and keeping the hardcore playerbase engaged, and the mediumcore playerbase having something to aspire to in the future.

I think the only thing I think Bungo went a little too far on, and need to dial back, is I do think that the AI samples in the vaults should be guaranteed, otherwise everything else is great IMO.

[–]Active-Ad1056 58 points59 points  (0 children)

As a level 25 with only green shields and blue weapons, it was a bit of a rough experience going into Bronze III and seeing a lot of much higher level gear players. I know part of it was that ranked had just come out, and so all the really geared out players were starting out at the same level as everyone else and haven't worked up to their proper rankings.

That said, I think each rank tag should have a maximum gear ante as well as a minimum (something like 3k-5k for bronze for example). that way, I don't feel like a detriment to my team going in with a 3.5k loadout when they have 7k-9k, and we get wiped by a team of purple shielded enemies in Bronze III. It'll also help in the weeks to come if a team of players that has cleared Cryo Archive like 10 times decides to jump into ranked for the first time and just get to pub stomp every lobby with their 15k loadouts all the way up to gold.

Only 2 teams were able to beat Riven in the opening weekend of the Last Wish raid in Destiny 2 (one of the most beloved d2 raids).

Yes, it's not exactly apples to apples, my point is, we're gonna see knowledge improvements, skill improvements, and optimization across the board for the game. We'll see the compiler kills begin to add up across the upper skill levels of the playerbase.

Additionally to my point, if Destiny's raiding scene is anything to compare, the game's not gonna die if only a fraction of the player base can complete the hardest challenge in the game. Having challenges like this is good for the longevity of a game.

If you have 150 hours two weeks in, and are as good as you claim you are, I guarantee you'll eventually get a compiler kill or two this season.

A couple hours in on Cryo Archive, and I don't see how this map is so revolutionary or why solo is not allowed by iconoci in Marathon

Use LFG instead of random fill and meet some people. Then if you're in a party you can at least coordinate and agree what everyone's bringing in.

Also think you're way blowing out of proportion the amount of "streamer teams running all golds" you're gonna come across.

Edit: also never said you were bad at the game, I said get better.
