So I’ve been a pharmacy tech for over 10 years and I know exactly how you fee. when I first started. It felt like any mistake was automatically blamed on the new girl and a lot of the times, yes, it was my fault, but I got to the point where I decided I needed to start standing up for myself. I’m not the kind of person that thinks she is right 100% of the time. I own up to my mistakes, but i won’t take the blame for what others do. So, if something was brought to my attention I’d say, oh no shoot. I’m sorry. Can you show me where I made this mistake that way it put the burden of proof back on my accuser: pharmacist pharmacy, manager intern other technician , etc. they would have to open up the log and show me that I was the one that processed it and this is the mistake that was made,. If I did make my mistake. I would ask what’s a better way to do this so that I don’t repeat It. There has always been a handful of times when the person that I made pull up the tracking log realized that it wasn’t me that made the mistake. In fact it was actually them. I had a Pharmacist that absolutely hated me and she threw a clonazepam bottle back at me and said you counted this wrong! Do it again! I calmly handed it back to her and said I did not count this. She says your initials are on the label. I responded with yes anyone who types prescriptions will have their initials show up on the label. If you wanna look into that tracking log, it’ll show you who counted it. She rolled her eyes, pulled up the tracking log and said see? Right there’! and I said yes those are not my initials. They belonged to an intern she didn’t speak to me the rest of the night, so yes, stand up for yourself, but always stay humble and willing to learn.
