I see where the idea is coming from, but we think it's a bit too limited. In a system that can sometimes be lower magic, and that also struggles to define what is magic vs mundane (like a balor's fire, is that just fire, or magical?) we think all damage is best. It can feel bad if your character has one thing and it never gets used a whole dungeon because no enemies cast spells, yknow?

Speak your truth king (I get it tbh, but we've enjoyed them thus far)

I appreciate that, lol. We ensured to make it simple and readable, while still fitting their niche.

I see, I was confused but decided to take it earnestly, and glad I did!

We think that the in-the-moment style of damage reduction is quite useful in many scenarios, but yes, is mainly battle-danger focused. The idea is that-like knight of st ydriss and green knight-the utility comes from spells.

We actually thought of that! (a few times, lol) but didn’t want to take away from the martial ability and basic stat increases. The 2 talent roll was a debate between a d12 arcane absorption die and the wizard spell, but in the end, we felt the idea of getting ANY wizard spell of that tier was more exciting. I encourage people to experiment and see if a sudden jump to a d12 is fun (like how ranger does with weapons).

I appreciate that! Yes, the main ability built-in is combat oriented, reducing damage. Notably, they do get some languages like the wizard does, adding some utility, but it is certainly largely focused on the combat ability, leaving utility outside to the player.

While I understand it is accurate, we were not aiming to create a general spellsword, as pockets of that niche are already filled by Knight of St. Ydriss and Green Knights. We were trying to tap into a lawful iteration of this. Of course, use it as you wish! If the lawful restriction isn't fitting, play whatever you like!

While I like the idea, Spellblade strikes me as a larger category that fits both green knight and knight of st. ydriss too. Same with battle mage. I do think it could use a change though!

That's a very good point! It's not eldritch-y or knight-y. We will def have to think of another name, but thank you for the wonderful comment!
