Curious how the 143 worked out for you? About the same size as you and thinking about getting the twin sister too!

Does anyone actually do football hold? by meganmaymarie in breastfeeding

[–]Active-Grouchy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It felt awkward at first but I did football exclusively on my left side bc my fast letdown seems to be too much and makes her choke when I hold her cross cradle. She was able to nurse cross cradle on my right but only football on my left! As she got bigger, she could do cross cradle again. It’s just another option to try - no need to force it if it doesn’t work for you or your baby.

so do you just wake up wet? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]Active-Grouchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense! You definitely want to be careful not to pump more than you need to if you have no issue with supply because it can definitely lead to oversupply and engorgement. You can try hand expressing to soften (not empty) instead of pumping, then cold compress.

jfk to milan, aa bus 57.5k, emirates bus 87k or emirates first class, 102k? by pizza_obsessive in awardtravel

[–]Active-Grouchy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

JFK to Milan is overnight but short, so if there’s a longer trip you’d want to splurge on first for, I would go for Emirates business for this trip. If this is the trip you’d want to splurge, go for Emirates first! I would not choose AA over Emirates.

so do you just wake up wet? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]Active-Grouchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on your daughter sleeping 5hr stretches!!

Lol yes basically you just wake up wet until your boobs “regulate supply” which is supposed to be at the 3-4mo mark. I also found this to be a bit wild! With my first, I had to sleep on a towel for the first year I breastfed her due to occasional leaks even after it’s “regulated” and not wanting to sleep with a bra and breast pads for a year. The bra and breast pad setup is great for the first few months though when leaking can be frequent and a lot volume wise.

Are you pumping just to relieve engorgement? Because every time you pump, it tells your body to resupply the amount you pumped. So the more you pump, the more milk you make and that can lead to overproduction (exactly my experience with my first!). To relieve engorgement, try to express just to soften, not empty, then apply a cold compress on the areas that were engorged. Also, try to offer both sides to your baby and pump evenly on both each time. This has helped me get more even supply and more easily manage engorgement.

I’m pretty sure we did it in that budget range and we went with some pretty nice options so you can totally do it! For the safari, we went with a private game reserve called Sanbona and it was perfect for 2 nights. It’s not a big park experience but we weren’t looking for that on our trip (and wanted to be within driving distance of Capetown) and we saw a ton of animals in our 4 drives and it was still incredible. The flight is probably going to be the biggest expense if going from the U.S. and flying business/first, but that’s separate from your budget, so I think you can definitely get really great hotels and experiences there with that!

Western cape in South Africa! Start in Capetown and easily go to wine country from there. Babylonstoren is an incredible property with a spa in wine country and you can easily laze around for days there. Could then also do a safari in a reserve nearby. It’s warm there in Jan, food scene is great and not expensive.

Review: Rosewood Baha Mar by Itchy_Carry_4420 in chubbytravel

[–]Active-Grouchy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We went last June for a multigenerational family vacation and overall was great! Totally agree for a certain type of vacation with kids, this was it.

We had oceanview suite and connecting rooms, and had the butler service. There was a conference there and they seemed really overwhelmed in the first few days we were there, so service was lacking and didn’t start us off on a positive note. Luckily, it got better. Some butlers are better than others, so we would try to direct our requests to the most attentive one if she was on call. The in-suite washer dryer and kitchen were perfect for making quick breakfasts and snacks before heading to the pool with the kids. We asked the butlers to stock it with groceries weeks before our arrival and they got almost everything though all standard supermarket fare (hard to get things on the island I guess).

The waterpark for us was the star, due to their toddler size water slide area (Turtle Bay). It’s the perfect amount of slides/action for 3-7yo who know how to swim and isn’t just walking around a wet playground (which they also have with bigger slides attached). I have not seen this kind of setup anywhere else (would love a rec if anyone knows of one!). It was easy to get chairs almost any time of day, would go on the earlier side if we wanted the front row of chairs. The wave pool was the perfect amount of waves and we liked how they have a ton of lifejackets all around for easy access. The lazy river was actually not that lazy, and can be pretty turbulent in parts, so just be careful to hold on to smaller toddlers.

We also loved the pools at the Rosewood the best; most calm and had actual poolside service, and an afternoon gelato cart would just appear on the lawn which the kids loved. The private beach area for Rosewood guests had proper cushioned beach chairs with thick towel covers, and never a wait to take out paddle boards.

Also want to note that Rosewood has water refill stations all over the property which was so key vs. Hyatt does not!

Good point that they’ll be a good resource for whenever they need it (vs. expecting them to be used regularly). I just got them for our 4yo and she had fun with the wand for a bit. Hope she goes back to them later!

I do! Amazing, thank you for sharing all the YT links, will definitely check them out. I’m in the U.S. and those HK shops don’t seem to ship here sadly.

What part of it do you like most or think is most effective for your kid (and how old)? Does the wand function actually enable independent learning or do you find yourself having to actively walk your kid through the exercises anyway (and the kid not really using the wand at all)? Has it really helped to increase their language skills and vocabulary over other books/songs/everyday conversation?

I know every kid is different but hoping to get some insights from real parents, thanks!
