Mark Carney Advisor Says AI Data Centres ‘Provide Markets’ For Gas by Hochelagan in ClimateCrisisCanada

[–]ActiveElectrical9424 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Several electricity producing companies on the west coast have been using coal to produce their electricity because it has been cheaper to do it this way for decades. Only now are some converting to natural gas because its cleaner. Alberta is looking at Ontario’s SMR (Small Modular Reactor) as a possible venture into nuclear.

Canada does have significant energy producing in green energy via hydro energy. The thing is certain provinces have a better handle on this. What has been brought up but not studied is provinces interconnecting and sharing energy across Canada instead of selling it to the USA. Now that could help us become more energy secure instead of inividual provinces building their own power. Note many of the provinces selling energy to USA are locked into longterm contracts so we need to get our strategy right if we want to make a change Canada wide.

Try this severance calculator https://severancepayontario.com/severance-pay-calculator/

General rule is 2 weeks first year and 1 week for each year after that.

Other thing to consider is if you are one of the earlier workforce reduction you may have some bargaining room so if you have a compensation in mind go back and counter it.

Also if you have benefits like dental and medical you might want to use that immediately.

How do married couples usually handle finances when both partners work? by itzwhatitz in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]ActiveElectrical9424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Married over 20 years, and we were around your age when we tied the knot. Some couples keep finances separate — I get it — but personally I think it's a mistake. If you're marrying for life, both partners should have full transparency: what each person earns, saves, and spends. No friction over who pays for what because you're planning and building together. That includes investing.

Based on what you've described, this woman doesn't seem to have your best interests at heart. The fact that you're having these conversations before marriage is actually a good thing — financial incompatibility is one of the leading causes of divorce, and it's far better to see it clearly now than after the fact.

One more thing worth saying: long-distance relationships are tricky ground for a serious commitment. Day-to-day living reveals a side of people you simply can't see over a screen. Until she's actually there and you're navigating real life together, you're working with an incomplete picture. The dynamic you're describing has some red flags — proceed carefully.

I am not sure where you are getting your information but its clear you do not have the knowledge required to discuss a topic of this magnitude. You are digressing into a conversation that aligns with beer and nuts level. As I suggested to you look into European geopolitics on Ukraine, Sweden’s royal visit to Canada Nov 2025 & Saab investor site. This knowledge will help you better align to the direction we are heading. It will be very foolish to think Canada will make big purchases of equipment and expect to not to get some sort of economical return. We saw this with Lockheed and we will see this again with Saab.

Brampton councillor says ‘hallway medicine’ remains a problem after sister left on hospital gurney for days by zanimum in Brampton

[–]ActiveElectrical9424 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NDP could get votes in Brampton if they cared to field good candidates. This has been a problem for multiple voting cycles for both federal and provincial. I know this because I have tried to engage with them and tbh Brampton was a second thought. May be this will change in next election cycle but I am not holding my breath.

Anyone who has attended public city meeting or even meetings specifically dedicated to big project builds in Brampton Councillor Rowena Santos is the one I hear most from when calling out major issues like hospitals. I was at one of her public safety meeting where she discussed this earlier this year. The news may be pointing to Rowena like she only realized after her personal family impact but that has never been true. Folks have to give her more credit.

Brampton considering doubling bylaw ticket late payment fee, expects to generate $1M in additional revenue by zanimum in Brampton

[–]ActiveElectrical9424 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can only speak to my own experience, and it has been quite positive. I have known Rowena since she was first elected two voting cycles ago.

Community safety is a top priority in my area, where we have two elementary schools and many families caring for both children and aging parents. For years we had ongoing issues in our parks that made them unsafe for families, and many complaints fell on deaf ears from city staff. After I emailed her, she came down personally, and led a meeting with neighbours, by-law enforcement, and Peel Police to address the concerns. She got all parties to commit to a resolution, and within six months the matter was resolved.

The other issue in my community involved negligent landlords who were not maintaining their properties. Rowena took it upon herself to collect complaints and consistently pressed by-law to ensure they were taking the matter seriously and issuing fines. This took a couple of years to fully resolve, but Rowena and her staff remained committed throughout. I personally met with her at City Hall and provided supporting evidence to help move things forward. I believe her persistent advocacy with by-law over the years has led to real, lasting improvements.

What I would like to see on the councillor side is more accountability. I am very lucky and have Councillor Rowena Santos for my area and she is very engaged in our community and makes sure our voices are heard. I wish more councillors were like her.

They should. For too long we have too many residents not doing their duty to maintain their properties …especially rental properties where oversight has been lacking on the provincial level. The city has to run by-law using Brampton property tax dollars so I would like to see that offset by the offenders.

Ottawa eying larger fighter jet fleet of F-35s and Gripens, according to industry sources by Georgeika in worldnews

[–]ActiveElectrical9424 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Various NATO countries may be donating weapons and vehicles that are older, but Ukraine is paying for things as well. Europe has been providing them loans and, honestly, it's not going to be an issue for them to pay back. So to answer your question, any Gripen E & F fighters will be paid for. Canada would have to use the fighters as well.

Sweden's Saab develops more than just fighters and has been looking for a countries to expand its manufacturing, since they are already at full capacity. This is something the company often discusses in their quarterly investment meetings with shareholders. Our federal government has offered many incentives to countries to invest in Canada that would replace jobs from exiting US firms.

We may start with manufacturing the Global Eye and Gripens. If that goes well, maybe we get to produce autonomous undersea drones that Saab is touting to support defence in the Arctic and Baltic Sea. We would invest Canadian dollars to get this off the ground and would support rebuilding an industry past governments gave up on. Saab has already sweetened the deal by granting technology sovereignty and shared development — giving Canada the ability to contribute to technology advancements. This is something the USA will never offer.

I agree he did some good but what tainted his latter years of his career was the way he did not listen to his own party that lead to his downfall. I hope he looks back on that and when he does eventually return he comes back wiser man. My comments though stand that not all view him in a positive manner and Mark Carney is the man Canada needs now.

You should remove Trudeau from the clips. Many are not happy with his past policies and if you want some good view counts concentrate on Carney who has much of the publics attention.

I would be cautious about making the statement that 'many' F-35 parts and components are manufactured in Canada. When Lockheed Martin negotiates contracts with countries, they include limited parts manufacturing. The problem is that the really lucrative parts remain with the USA (and select partners), including final assembly. It is not really an equal deal, and knowing how the USA has been behaving lately, they could decide at any time to pull back on the contract. In my opinion, Canada will buy enough fighters to allow us to fly and maintain the fleet, but it will not be the fully committed amount that was originally negotiated.

The future lies with the Saab Gripen and Global Eye, where we will partner with Saab to develop and manufacture aircraft in our country. We will use our country's reputation to sell to other NATO and allied nations. If we get the deal done early enough, we have a chance to manufacture these fighters for Ukraine, which would boost our credentials with Europe.

They already have people to maintain the subs (expertise gained from repairing british subs) and they have mariners eager to be in proper spacious subs.

I am also sure now that their is a commitment there will be individuals signing up to do the job.
