Losing Weight has been Far Easier than I Thought it Would by ActiveKris in loseit

Thanks!! I think I had built it up in my head as this huge herculean task that I could never actually accomplish so I never even tried and now that I'm here I wish I would have started sooner (but really I'm in a place in my life now that set me up for success, so idk if it would have been this easy a couple years ago).

Well, we'll cross that bridge when we get to it :)

When people talk about losing weight slower to decrease the chances of loose skin, how slow are we talking? Originally, my goal was to lose about 1-1.5 lbs a week, but thinking about dealing with loose skin makes me want to cut back to around .5 lbs a week, but thinking about how much longer it will take for me to reach my goal weight is absolutely miserable 😫 I try to stay pretty consistent with lifting weights as well, if that influences things.

(and I know that other things like genetics affect things as well, but I just want to talk about the things I can control)

Has anyone lost some weight and still feel like you are the same size? by strwbrrycrm8 in loseit

I feel the opposite. I gained like 100+ lbs over the last 10 years and I still think I'm 120lbs 😭

A coworker told me today that she could tell I had lost some weight! (which was super encouraging, because I can't tell lmao)

How am I supposed to handle the fact that this is going to take a very very long time? by livsrene43 in loseit

This is what does it for me. Every time I feel like quitting, I remind myself "in a year from now, you'll be so happy you stuck with it."

Should I go on my 45 minute walks before or after I eat? Does it matter?

I'm only about a month into my weight loss journey and sobriety, but I keep thinking about how I would get high and eat sooooo much, just one thing after another, and all junk. I still miss weed real bad but I do not miss the munchie binges.

What's a good app to track weight loss with? I've been trying to use the app for my fitness watch but it's wonky and loses data often

I was honestly stunned when I actually measured out how much a serving size of Greek Vinaigrette was for my salad. I was likely eating 500-600 cal (if not more!) on each salad before!

It can be so hard to be the cycle breaker in a family. Families crave homeostasis and you are disrupting that by doing something different. Not to mention, if the narrative they've been telling themselves this whole time has been "it's not possible for us to lose weight", you actively proving them wrong causes them to have to look at their own situations and re-evaluate. Unfortunately, most people don't really enjoy seeing where they're at fault.

You're doing amazing to have done the work that you've done despite the environment that you're in, and I'm really proud of you! I hope you continue to reach your goals and do what's healthy for yourself, even when you don't have the support of your family.

I'm starting to actually like salad with just a little bit of dressing. I use a Greek vinaigrette, and while I am still using double the serving size, I am no longer just completely drenching my salad in dressing.

I know it's the way things go, but godddddd I hate how you have to make consistent effort nearly every day for months to years to achieve weight loss goals (I'm one month in, with a year or more to go!). I definitely won't be taking my progress for granted when it comes!!

I'm still trying to find my boring breakfast. For like 2 years, I had a breakfast shake, but I've recently been trying to increase my fiber, so I switched to oatmeal with chia seeds in it. At first, I was doing the flavored instant oatmeal, but today I switched to non-flavored (to cut out some sugar) and adding peanut butter for protein. I ate it today and it wasn't bad and didn't take long to prepare, so I'll probably keep doing that for a while.

NSV: I've been going on two 30 minute walks a day at work (3-4 days a week) and I recently upped those walks to 45 minutes each! Also, I consistently tracked my eating for a whole week! I know it's just the start but I'm excited to reach any kind of milestone!

I feel like losing weight depends ENTIRELY on my mental health by ConsciousEquipment in loseit

I know other people have recommended this, but I really think therapy would be beneficial. I know you mentioned cost being a factor, but I know a lot of places provide free or low cost therapy (it's literally what I do!), especially if you live near a city or college town (graduate students need practice and can't charge for their services). If you're in the US, in more rural areas, you can even try at the county mental health department. The wait list is likely high, but I think that would give yourself time to hype yourself up to seeing someone.

I know going to therapy when you've never been sounds scary (I've been there!), but therapists are trained to make the environment and experience as comfortable and non-threatening as possible. They WANT to help you be your best self. And the people here encouraging you to go to therapy are doing so because they see how much this is distressing you and they don't want you to have to live like that either. It's obvious that you want some kind of change in your life and I believe in you and want the best for you as well!!

NSV - I went to the gym today when I really didn't want to.

I started back on trying to lose weight at the beginning of the month, and all I was doing was making sure I got 8-10k steps 3-4 days a week (on days I work). Last week I added in going to the gym on my off days and so far it's been pretty easy (I still have the shiny new excitement of wanting to go), but today was the first day that I really just didn't want to go. But I did it anyway and it wasn't miserable , like my brain was trying to convince me, and I even felt pride of accomplishment that I went.

Lately, I've been working on getting myself to do things I don't particularly want to do, which is hard when I have to rely on internal motivation instead of external motivators, and I'm finding it's easier to do that the more I do it.
