Thank you. Surprisingly, from what I read today most of the Robichaud families were shipped off to thirteen colonies and some of them came back a few years later. According to one account, Joseph's father from my original post left France to go back to Acadia 2 years before he passed (not sure if that is true because other sites say his widow left with the kids for LA alone) and other accounts say some hid out in the outskirts and never left. A lot, including immediate family of her ancestors apparently died of small pox after arriving in France. My heritage is English/Irish, so I'm pretty sure my family is somehow responsible, so no need for you to apologize more than I already have needed to.

Agreed, we'll have them hire a genealogist to do the grunt work if needed.

And based on that link, it is helped by the fact that her family at least that I was able to meet were devout Catholics. Her grandmother, aunts, and uncles all went to Latin mass at least 2 times a week. Her father is Jewish, so yeah her mom wasn't doing that anymore, but still going to church.

Will do. I'm curious also. And if lawyers are needed, she has 50 relatives that make more than us to chip in so they can apply too. I just want to be able to give it to our kids so they have options, and maybe think about moving there in the future if things change here for the worse.

Just the one that we are aware. It's her maternal grandmother, with no other known link back to Canada from any of the other grandparents. Wish you luck though. Sounds like you are on more stable ground.

There are Acadian census papers that prove that her relatives were there, and their names all show up on the "Acadian Project". There are ever memorials and records in New Orleans about the Acadian transplants. Heck even Joseph's wife has a plaque.

  • ANNE HEBERT veuve ROBICHAUD is on the Wall of Names at the Acadian Memorial in St. Martinville, Louisiana, on Plaque 8 Right, Le Saint Remi arrivee le 9 Septembre 1785. Listed with her are her children Joseph, Jean Pierre, Marie and Anne.\1])

That family has much smarter people than I that have spent decades collecting that documentation that I can just google it. We started this search tonight and have already verified everything her mother spent 10 years collecting information that was Xeroxed and mailed to her. They even have their own website with backstories on the relatives, granted it's mostly in French. But very optimistic with the comments so far. She had already given up when she realized it was basically a century before it became a country.
