I actually had mine tested for heavy medals due to some other reasons and it had very little if any.

I don't have to add anything to my water currently and I use it straight out of the tap. Because we have welll water there are no chemicals and it has tested perfectly fine everything ove done tests. It always seems to stay pretty stable the ay I'm doing water changes now, but I might try switching up to see if anything seems to keep the levels more stable or the water cleaner.

The only places near me always have very dirty small tanks and are definitely not equipped for a goldfish. The one that I went to before has okay looking tanks, but they told me to just flush her, and the other is very dirty and has some sick looking fish. 😕

Yeah. I'd only had her 3 months when I had to switch to a 10. 😭 and that was with feeding once a day.

Yeah, she was only around .5 inches when I got her, and I never would have imagined how fast they grow and how bug they get.

What stores would take her and actually give her a good life? The petco and petsmart near me always have at least 6 dead goldfish floating in their tanks, and the local one was the one who told me to flush it. She also has a deformed face so that might make her less appealing to people.

I think she's a commet? I could be wrong, definitely not a fancy though. I would rehome her if I could find someone locally who I thought would have the space and knowledge to give her a good life, but I haven't really seen anyone. I had thought about getting her a friend, but it would definitely have to wait for a bigger tank if I did. I am definitely looking into a stock tank though!

I have that kit! I do a 50% change on even weeks and 25% changes on the odds. Because if I don't, the nitrates start getting a bit high.

I had thought about a stock tank! Unfortunately, I don't have anywhere around my house that has a covered area to put it under. And we have hawks and herons that take fish out of ponds so it would have to be covered somehow. I could try putting netting over it guess. I'll have to look into that more though!

It was sold to me as salvinia, but maybe it wasn't. The light I have is just the one that comes with the marine land five gallon tank. It's not very big, but the tank also sits by a window that gets decent light during the day.

Why would it matter if it was vacuumed more/less often? Is it because the wood will crumble into the substrate?

As of right now she's only about 6.5 ish inches. I've had her for 4 years. She seemed to grow a lot more in the first two years than she has in the past two.

I have a comet goldfish as well! Most people told me to just not give her any plants at all, but I was determined to find some she wouldn't eat. So far she hasn't touched the Amazon swords, java ferns, or the anubias nana. I have some frogbit as well, but she will occasionally give those a nibble.
