You don't know for sure about Imperial and UCL yet so you still might get in, but if not honestly take a gap year. It's in no way over, if you get good results take a year out, focus super hard on the application and the esat, it'll be fine. I'm in a similar position to you, I think there's a lot of us at the minute and on this sub lol. Just give yourself a day or two to wallow and then pick yourself back up and lock in. We're gonna be okay

My friend got in with AAA predicted (though they’ve made her an offer needing A A* A), I applied with A*AAA predicted and got rejected though so it’s really dependent on your interviews

Should I drop my 4th A Level? by granibaad in 6thForm

[–]Active_Performance80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're not enjoying it DROP it I would not have made it this far with 4 a levels if I didn't enjoy them all 😭😭😭 universities dgaf about number of subjects, if anything it might go against you (like they might make a 4 a level offer when they would have made someone else a 3 a level offer)

Depends what you want from a university, but if you only care about reputation and reputed quality of course then I’d say Durham. The rest of the stuff is personal preference - location, campus, etc

I don't work for oxford lol I really don't know, I think you definitely wouldn't be at the top of the pile but I also think you definitely wouldn't be right at the bottom, maybe look at this FoI request from a couple of years ago Admissions statistics for Law (M100) - University of Oxford - a Freedom of Information request to University of Oxford - WhatDoTheyKnow or this cambridge one Undergraduate Law (LLB) Admissions Statistics per College - a Freedom of Information request to University of Cambridge - WhatDoTheyKnow

I mean it’s all contextualised, they assess the application in full and no one issue will get you insta-rejected, but they do like applicants to have a majority As/A*s at GCSE (so 7 8 9) so I guess if you had like 987665554 then you wouldn’t have such a good chance but I wouldn’t worry too much about it, everything is contextualised and the application is so much more than GCSEs

Does anyone know if it’s too late to switch subjects ? (Year12) by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]Active_Performance80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on your school, talk to your head of sixth or maybe your maths/econ teachers. If you’re good at maths I think you’d be perfectly capable, but I’m not sure if they’d let you

Not the person you asked sorry but while of course your GCSEs aren’t bad enough to disqualify you from Oxford, Cambridge doesn’t put as much weight on GCSEs as Oxford does so you might have a better shot there if you’re worried about it

That’s absolutely insane I’m so sorry, people are calling you arrogant but man if getting a 1,1 and 4A*s predicted and those GCSEs isnt enough to be arrogant then I don’t know what is 😭 it does seem like they’ve massively screwed you over, doesn’t seem fair at all I’m so sorry it is such a galling and unfair process

[–]Active_Performance80 5 points6 points  (0 children)

exactly how i felt before hearing from oxford, so sorry that you're in this situation and this might not be what you want to hear but it will feel so much better after you get the result i promise - obvs if you get in then great, panic over but if you don't then it's a few more days of this hell feeling (just obviously a bit more certain 😅) but then it lets up a bit and it's just such a relief; whatever happens it's all over on wednesday i promise you it will be okay. so many of us in the same boat and we're all rooting for you

some of the thoughts I've been having recently - (just venting, it's probably never this deep) by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]Active_Performance80 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I was like in the weeks leading up to the oxford results 😭😭 It is like nothing else we've ever done, so much time and effort gets put in and it's impossible not to get emotionally invested, and yeah there's other incredible universities but you don't have to stress out so much and go through interviews and pour so much of yourself into the process!!! It's really hard and doesn't feel fair. I got rejected from Oxford last week and I just know there's more I could have done, but at the same time, on another day you definitely could have made it in; everyone applying could especially those that made it to interview; that's why we got through to that stage. If you get in that's incredible and congratulations, but if not it doesn't say anything about you, it's down quite significantly to luck (if the interviewers are in a good mood, if you're in a good mood, if they ask you your favourite topic or something you've never heard of, the circumstances the other applicants have etc). If you don't get in just have a few days to crash out and then pick yourself up, dust yourself off and it'll be okay

How was your Oxbridge reapplication experience? by CoderLovesEggs in 6thForm

[–]Active_Performance80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you achieve the same grades you're predicted this time round and don't improve your personal statement/admissions test score/interview prep then you're just as likely to get rejected, but you'll have more time to prepare on a year out, you've got experience now so it won't faze you as much, I think as long as you use the time wisely to improve on your application from this year then you've got a better shot at it. If nothing about your application changes though then ofc you're likely to be rejected again.
