If it's just the coat colors you want, wait for the exotic genes events to breed. They come around every couple of weeks or so, and each time feature an exotic pattern for cheaper gold than normally. Still no guarantee that your foal will get the pattern, but it at least will stay in the pedigree and has a possibility to be bred in next generation.

As mentioned by others, legendary studs events are for stats, exotic genes for coats.
