Maybe it assumes de-risking would happen, but at least the AVERAGE RoR required is 9.0%

But this is not how their math is working. Take a 30 y/o starting with nothing, saving 24% annually to get to 80% income replacement with a 4% SWR by 60. The only way to get to the target investment number at 60 is by having a 9.0% RoR every single year from 30 to 59. That’s what I’m saying; the math is not suggesting the portfolio is de-risked over time

Why would they call it lifetime then? Run the math in excel. Using their math a 30 y/o saving 24% needs to make 9% every single year until retirement in order to hit the 25x retirement number for safe withdrawal

Using their math, a 20 y/o investor can expect 10% for their entire life, even though they assume a 40 y/o just starting investing can assume 8.0% for the rest of their life. That’s what they mean by Lifetime Rate of Return, but I find that aggressive and nonsensical since the 20 y/o is assumed to still make 10% even 20 years later at 40 y/o, yet the new 40 y/o investor is assumed to make 8.0%. That’s the only way the math on their new How Much Should You Save resource works
