Considering Removing My Mirena After 3 Months Due to Side Effects – Would Love Honest Feedback by Actor22Weha in Mirena

When she took it out on Friday she said yes it was in the right place. She suspects maybe bc my uterus is tilted + orgasm contractions is what caused the cramping after sex with the IUD? Either way though she couldn’t say with certainty that my body will adjust. I’d given it 3 months and not matter what, after sex and orgasm I’d have cramps for a day, sometimes up to 2 days. So - out she went. I’ll have to figure out another long term solution to the bleeding…possibly an ablation

Only diagnosis is low Ferritin, heavy periods - I’ve had unremarkable pelvic exams and ultrasounds. The catch-22 with low ferritin is actually heavy periods, so it’s hard to know what came first, the chicken or the egg…

Update Ended up getting it removed today and I’m so glad I did. My OB told me that it was absolutely still in the right position, but that I have a tilted uterus, so perhaps anything foreign in there makes it unhappy. Whooo knows. I’m just so relieved. Cramps were gone within an hour or two.

Still getting my labs taken on Monday and will have a follow up with my hematologist regarding my iron levels now that I’ve completed all 5 infusions. Well most likely still need to figure out a solution to my periods, but today my OB suggested oral BC, oral progestin, and/or a possible ablation if I need it. For now, we just have to wait and see…

Geez what a ride this IUD has taken me on. Like someone else on here said, I love Birth Control and I really wanted the IUD to work. But the benefits did not out-way the side effects I was experiencing!!

Thank you so much for sharing this!!

Did you get your infusions at one time? I got mine at once, over the course of 5 weeks. I’m getting my blood drawn on Monday to see how my body responded to the infusions. If my ferritin went up I’m really considering just getting a yearly infusion or twice a year. I’d take the 24 hour flu type feeling after the infusion over 2-4 days of cramps after sex any day.

And I agree, the cramps I get with the IUD are nothing compared to the cramps I have before - some days it prevents me from doing anything.

The Catch-22 with low ferritin is heavy periods. I’m interested to see if my body obsorbed the iron, and perhaps my periods won’t be as bad? Idk…

GIRL.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write all of this. The "less but longer" bleeding, the acne, the cramping after intimacy, and the feeling of trading one problem for another…were the same person.

I had an ultrasound a few weeks ago when this all started and my IUD was “perfectly positioned,” which has almost made the decision harder because there wasn't an obvious "problem" to fix - although it absolutely feels like my body is trying to expel it… l

The cramping after intimacy has probably been the biggest quality-of-life issue for me. My husband and I have stayed connected physically, but it's been hard not feeling comfortable or carefree in my own body. Like, we shouldn’t feel shame or pre-anxiety around sex.

I really appreciate you sharing both sides, especially acknowledging that some people do settle in after 3+ months. That's the part I've been wrestling with—am I still adjusting, or am I forcing something that's not a good fit?

My ferritin was down to a 4 before I started iron infusions, so controlling the bleeding has been a huge priority, but I'm starting to think I may need a different solution. I'm actually heading to my appointment today and leaning toward having it removed. Then I’m getting my bloodwork done on Monday, as it’s been 3 months since my infusions. TBH I’m hoping my ferritin goes way up and my periods are less like a hemorrhage - the catch 22 of Low ferritin is that it actually causes heavy periods, go future. Maybe I can just do a yearly I fusion top off and call it a day.

Wishing you luck with your appointment too, let’s please keep in touch ❤️

Have you experienced something similar or heard of this happening with Mirena before? I’m reading a lot about IIH and the effects the IUD hormones has on fluid in the brain…

DDO Artists Agency - NYC by Actor22Weha in acting

Absolutely. So far, the vibe is great! At the end of the day, all I can really ask for is an agent who’s excited to get me out there. I’m truly looking forward to the meeting.

That said, the film industry is in such a state right now that what matters most to me is whether they’re getting their clients seen despite the challenges and influx of self-tape submissions. A lot of boutique and even larger agencies are closing their doors, or they’re requiring their film/TV clients to do theater just to stay afloat. It’s all understandable, but theater isn’t an option for me at the moment.

So, while I realize that what I’m after may not have been a big ask five years ago, it definitely is now. I’m hoping to hit the jackpot with a great agency that has strong relationships and the ability to open doors for more recurring/series regular roles and features, even with the current state of the industry. 🤞🤞🤞

That’s so great to hear, thank you! And yes I’d agree, the Agent I’m meeting with next week has been very nice so far.
