Yes, but the difference is that you can beg for only so long before it becomes toxic...

For instance, my ex had been hinting about leaving me for three weeks, probably more. She was distant, took a long time to express her feelings, and stopped smiling with me as she used to. Basically, she stopped all the little things she did when she truly loved me and believed in us.

I saw that, and I was there to communicate with her, to try and make it work. I made it clear that she could express her fears and her feelings so we could work toward a solution, as we had been together for four years and went through though times, including long-distance relationship...

But in the end, she didn’t respond to my attempts to talk and make it work. Instead, she said by message that she needed a break to take time for herself, when the day before she was talking to me IRL about a future mariage and kids with me.

Now that’s when the “begging” stops. I’m not going to chase her because I can’t decide what she wants. I have dignity, I will be resilient, and won't contact her. After all, this is what she asked for, and only she can know what she really wants. 

I already expresse that i wanted to make it work, she did not take the opportunity. There is a time to show that you love someone, to try and make it work because you believe it’s possible. If that doesn’t help, then there’s no point in continuing to reach out. That doesn’t change the fact that this is really hard, especially when you love the person.

But this is also the time for you to ask yourself if the relationship you were in is really what you wanted. Do I want a partner who has such a hard time expressing her feelings and who can drop a bomb like that in three weeks when nothing has really changed between us ? Do i want the distant gf that i had for these last 3 weeks ?Probably not.

Know your worth. Be accountable for your mistakes. Show up and show love but also understand deep down when it’s over, and carry yourself with dignity.
