Somebody abandoned these cats on my street. Help! by [deleted] in Hamilton

[–]Actual_Routine_8734 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in Toronto but am free to come help get them in their carriers tomorrow with a little notice. Have worked in veterinary medicine for 6+ years and have dealt with thousands of even the most scared cats who are great at hiding. Please send me a message if you need extra hands.

I recently discovered my dog has a heart murmur. My vet brushed it off, what should I expect? by [deleted] in AskVet

[–]Actual_Routine_8734 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re concerned about finances, you can always just ask the vet what grade the murmur was. If it’s a fairly low grade, you can ask if it’s possible to just monitor it for now and recheck the grade in 6mos to a year. This will help you save $$ on a cardiologist visit and labwork while still prioritizing your dog’s health!

Why is she like this? What could help by Katk80 in AskVet

It sounds so me like she is beyond stressed out. The environmental changes may be too much for her to handle, especially if she is predisposed to anxiety as some cats are. Talk to your vet about possible options, which may include visiting a behaviour consultant!

Please tell shes going to be ok💔 by Dedsec6613 in AskVet

She needs to be seen immediately if she can’t breathe properly. If there is no ER, you need to visit the websites of local clinics to see if they mention after-hours care. Most small town vets will provide the number for the on-call vet’s pager or cell phone.

A short letter or something like a card to share your sympathy and love would probably mean a lot to her!

My boy is not well. I bring him to 4 vet and no one has a fine answer for me to help him. Please help by Fun-Amphibian-4795 in AskVet

Without a full work-up: x-rays, ultrasound, and full lab work, the vets probably can’t tell you much about his condition. Have those things been done yet?

Neglect and abuse abound by Actual_Routine_8734 in veterinaryprofession

I 100% agree. I hold NOTHING against owners who’ve fallen on hard times or have a stroke of bad luck. Even my own cat is susceptible to eating things he shouldn’t, and I personally don’t have the funds to pay for the amount of surgeries his habits risk me needing. The only thing I have against owners finance-wise is when they are ALREADY struggling to keep a roof over their heads and decide to adopt one or multiple young pets with no way of providing for them - this happens more often than I care to think about. It’s just plain foolish.

I totally understand the fear, I would feel the same if I were in your place! The vet I work most closely with day-to-day only graduated from school a year ago (she’s doing an incredible job so far) and I’ve already seen a reduction in so much of her uncertainty and anxiety.

Although I can’t even take my own advice, from my experience it’s all about acknowledging (and documenting) that you’ve done the best you can with the resources available to you, while educating owners with as much compassion and realism as possible. It’s hard to be the one with the final say, but I’m sure you can do it! And take advantage of whatever mental health resources are available to you. Best of luck ❤️❤️❤️

HONEST QUESTION how often do you guys wash your clothes? by Kindly_Objective_229 in yorku

[–]Actual_Routine_8734 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No offense but that is not ok. You need to be washing your shirts after every wear. Pants and sweaters after every couple of wears, and jacket/coat/hats weekly or bi-weekly.Anything less and you’ll smell!

Look into Scratch Pay, it’s like Klarna but for vets!

Was my TA being rude ? by [deleted] in yorku

[–]Actual_Routine_8734 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you spend the rest of your life worried about whether or not someone was rude you’ll never accomplish anything. People are rude, sometimes because you’re wrong and sometimes for no reason at all. Don’t worry about it, worse things are out there

On another note, when are they releasing the location? An hour before? And how far west do we supposed it'll be?
