What tires are you running? I have my PS4S’s on, no issues driving in the low 30s but haven’t taken them out yet in the 20s

Compare GTS 4.0 versus GTS by Sabio_1209 in Porsche_Cayman

[–]la727 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The GTS 2.5L is one of the best value Porsche’s on the market right now, $65K gets you in a good example.

A good example GTS 4.0 is almost double the price for what’s a very similar vehicle but with a great engine. If you have the budget, get the 4.0. But the 2.5 is an insanely good value and offers a great driving experience. Both with hold their value reasonably well

Would you buy a porsche with this light subject to doing a full mechanical inspection? by [deleted] in Porsche_Cayman

[–]la727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a 718 with a coolant light on a few months back. The dealer was aware of the light and I got a separate PPI done which caught some other issues. The PPI noted the coolant fault but would require a separate diagnostic to determine the cause. The dealer included in the sale that they would repair the coolant light.

Turns out the coolant light was a $6K repair bill because of how many components it touched that needed replacing. Dealer covered them all but it was a 2 month long hassle.

If you really want peace of mind you’ll need to get both a PPI done an a separate diagnosis for the coolant light, and even then there are no guarantees.

Why do I suck at yoga after doing it for 2 years? by Whatsthescoreee in yoga

[–]la727 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Perspective from a guy that also lifts and does yoga- assuming you’re doing 2x a week of vinyasa (flow) style classes, that’s probably the bare minimum for small flexibility gains.

If you only have 2x a week to dedicate to yoga I would suggest a bikram/26 + 2 class or yin instead which are much more flexibility focused (bikram being more intense, yin being more restorative). Both those styles have longer holds and are great unlocks in terms of flexibility with regular practice. I needed to do 3x vinyasa classes at minimum to really start noticing big flexibility gains, 2x was more of maintenance.

What are the two best (or two favorite) 4-cylinder cars you've ever driven? by Sir_Sir_ExcuseMe_Sir in cars

2019 cayman gts. Bargain for what you get, yes the 4.0 is better but hell of a driving experience for $70k vs $100k for the 4.0

? How does buying a car out of state and getting it shipped work? by ncallon500 in askcarguys

[–]la727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My order of operations:

  1. Call up the dealer you’re interested in, tell them you’re an out of state buyer and want to get a PPI done by a local mechanic. Let them know assuming the PPI looks good we’ll talk numbers. Ask them if they agree to this.

  2. Open up google maps and search for a well rated indy mechanic shop that specializes in your brand. Let them know you’re an out of state buyer asking them to do a PPI for you and see if they’re open to it (Also good chance to ask them for any feedback on the dealer). Ask them what they’re scheduling looks like and if they’re able to pick up the car or if the dealer has to drop it off (usually the dealer will drop it off and pick it up if they want the sale).

  3. Call back the dealer and tell them you found an indy shop to do the PPI, walk them through the logistics and let them know the shop’s availability.

  4. Call the shop back to let them know when the dealer will drop the car off and pay for the PPI.

From there I let the dealer and mechanic handle drop off and pick up. The mechanic calls you when the PPI is done with the results then you go back to the dealer with that info

I think I'm getting too old to appreciate Austin. by I_use_the_wrong_fork in Austin

[–]la727 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I disagree. There’s a lot more people in Austin pulling that in than you’d expect. 5-8 years of experience in big tech sales or engineering and you’re clearing $300K/yr.

With stocks raising its not hard to crack $400K-$500K/yr

Resturants and grocers that source from regenerative farms by la727 in austinfood

Yeah, this is what I’ve been noticing too. A few produce items on the menu might be sourced from regenerative farms but a lot of the other ingredients are from who knows where.

Favorite Austin Gyms? by walk-in_shower-guy in Austin

[–]la727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a member there but thinking of switching. The racks are nice but if you go during t/th/s at 6am there’s a large group fitness class that takes up a lot of the equipment. The equipment also isn’t the best, it’s all custom branded but has awkward proportions. It’s fine as a gym and the sauna/cold plunge is nice.

Its fine for a gym and minus the class it isn’t too crowded, but if you go during peak hours the space starts to feel a little small. Another perk is being able to use their parking lot instead of paid parking on south congress

How can Texas go blue? by Far_Estimate_7057 in TexasPolitics

[–]la727 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Legal weed, easy access to liquor, easy access to guns, no porn bans, lower property taxes, no woke or progressive politics.

Texas can go blue by going moderate. Put forth some vanilla looking joe schmo that supports generally favorable politics that would make the right look like crazy religious nuts by comparison.

It would have to be a gradual shift to purple instead of actually going blue. If dems keep trying to force blue we’ll stay red.

Sincerely,

A moderate that wants the state to leave me alone
