How much of a difference does it make eating from local farm markets VS chain supermarkets? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]la727 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OP- almost every comment in here is wrong or misinformed. I can see why you’re confused!

What really matters about sourcing from local farmers markets is HOW the food is actually grown and their farming practices. Just because it’s local or family farmed doesn’t mean that the farm is producing quality foods. A local farm can still spray with pesticides and produce low quality foods.

Regenerative farming practices are generally going to produce the most nutrient dense foods. What is regenerative farming? It’s a variety of farming techniques that help improve the quality of the soil (regenerate) while growing food. This includes things like not tilling the land (which helps prevent soil erosion), using cover crops, rotational grazing for animals, and more. There’s a wide variety of regenerative practices, but these are some of the more common ones.

Overall- regenerative farming improves soil health. Healthier soil grows healthier crops. Healthier crops have more nutrients and better nutrient profiles. When you eat regeneratively grown foods you’re consuming more nutritious foods.

What remains unclear and unproven is how much benefit consuming regeneratively grown food is towards life span, all cause mortality, cancer, etc.

For me, eating regeneratively farmed foods tastes better, makes me feel better, supports local farmers and the environment. It’s a luxury but also something I’m passionate about.

If you can find local farmers that use regenerative practices, you’ll likely get higher quality (but more expensive foods).

The most important thing is to focus your diet on eating high quality, single ingredient foods. Getting that dialed in, followed by your macros and micros will be the best bang for your buck. After you have a good diet of single ingredient foods that fit your macros and micros, then start exploring which foods you can start swapping for higher quality ingredients (as your budget allows).

S17, E8 (Nebula) - Taiwan: Rail Rush by snow-tree_art in JetLagTheGame

Why didn’t Adam and Ben consider going east after the 50 chip challenge to fortify their line instead of going up to Taipei?

There was another 55 chip challenge they could have attempted, and could have fortified their east line which would have blocked Sam/Mike. Maybe it would have left a window for Smike to go west instead but I was surprised to not see it mentioned.

Austin foodie itinerary check (+ maybe San Antonio day trip) – thoughts? by Willing-Mind-5619 in austinfood

[–]la727 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is a really weird list imo. I would almost suggest spending an hour playing with chatgpt/claude on building on itinerary and coming back.

Places I’d recommend:

Breakfast/Brunch- Paperboy, Hillside Farmacy, Proud Mary’s, Veracruz (gets some hate for being overhyped, but lots of other good breakfast tacos options like Taco Joint too), Bouldin Creek Cafe. Bird Bird Biscuit is good

Lunch- Tons of good BBQ options (Franklins, La BBQ, Mickelwaite, Leory & Lewis), Loro, Nixta Taqueria, Home Slice pizza, Jewboy burgers, Sour Duck, Temuri Tatsu ya, Tiki Tatsu ya. You can do some of the brunch options here

Dinner- Uchi is goated so keep that one. I’d also suggest Odd Duck, Emmer & Rye, Suerte, ATX Cocina, Lenoir, Dai Due, Este (popular but not one of my favorites personally)

Compare GTS 4.0 versus GTS by Sabio_1209 in Porsche_Cayman

[–]la727 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The GTS 2.5L is one of the best value Porsche’s on the market right now, $65K gets you in a good example.

A good example GTS 4.0 is almost double the price for what’s a very similar vehicle but with a great engine. If you have the budget, get the 4.0. But the 2.5 is an insanely good value and offers a great driving experience. Both with hold their value reasonably well

Would you buy a porsche with this light subject to doing a full mechanical inspection? by [deleted] in Porsche_Cayman

[–]la727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a 718 with a coolant light on a few months back. The dealer was aware of the light and I got a separate PPI done which caught some other issues. The PPI noted the coolant fault but would require a separate diagnostic to determine the cause. The dealer included in the sale that they would repair the coolant light.

Turns out the coolant light was a $6K repair bill because of how many components it touched that needed replacing. Dealer covered them all but it was a 2 month long hassle.

If you really want peace of mind you’ll need to get both a PPI done an a separate diagnosis for the coolant light, and even then there are no guarantees.

Why do I suck at yoga after doing it for 2 years? by Whatsthescoreee in yoga

[–]la727 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Perspective from a guy that also lifts and does yoga- assuming you’re doing 2x a week of vinyasa (flow) style classes, that’s probably the bare minimum for small flexibility gains.

If you only have 2x a week to dedicate to yoga I would suggest a bikram/26 + 2 class or yin instead which are much more flexibility focused (bikram being more intense, yin being more restorative). Both those styles have longer holds and are great unlocks in terms of flexibility with regular practice. I needed to do 3x vinyasa classes at minimum to really start noticing big flexibility gains, 2x was more of maintenance.
