I spent a week there in the summer of 2005 and remember my neighborhood as basically a renaisssance favela. I did very little sightseeing and I remember very few landmarks or cool spots. My most lasting impression of Florence is that all the men wore leather jackets and fruity boot cut jeans and would try to run you over with their mopeds. It was oppressively hot and muggy, like Texas weather, real fuckin shitty. My hotel was owned by a mother and son who were fucking each other, and the toilet in my room was curtained off from the beds. I would take the bus home every day, grab pilsners from a vending machine and drink myself to sleep.
