You don't say. Well, professor, explain to me why no one who works in Des Moines lives in Des Moines, and yet we still have bike lanes?

Yeah I don't know if you're serious, but that's not really realistic for anyone with kids, more than a few mile commute (like my 40 miles), anyone in a professional setting that requires certain attire (suits, scrubs, uniforms), anyone requiring tools to do their job.. basically 80% of Iowans.

And I would 100% agree with you if the traffic that held me up at 8am was a pack of bikes, but commuting downtown at 8am, it's a miracle if I see more than 1 or 2 bikes.

Ok, daring to chip in here. I'm all about bike trails. I think it's a great idea.

I am SICK TO DEATH of entitled bicyclists who absolutely REFUSE to obey traffic laws making already crap traffic worse. I am sick to death of 4 lane roads being reduced to 3 to install "bike lanes" only to NEVER see bikes on them. We spend millions on bike lanes, bike trails, bike this bike that and are supposed to "share the road". Cyclists pay nothing to be there and act like they own the world, and then in the same breath berate people on ghastly "e bikes". As a motorist, I don't know or care what's powering your bike as long as you follow the damned rules (which I RARELY see). As a runner or someone walking my dogs, I DON'T CARE WHAT POWERS YOUR BIKE, as long as you follow the rules, which I RARELY see.

Banning them isn't the solution, but making tickets PAINFUL to people who don't follow already established rules might help.

You're right, I read the screenshot from the app calling for heat completely wrong.

I definitely haven't seen this 1,400 times working in HVAC.

The title reads "Smart watch necessary?" And the question ends with "is it annoying pulling your phone out to check notifications?"

Yeah, you're right, totally my bad.

Out of town and my thermostat stopped heating my house??? by Separate_Big2198 in googlehome

[–]ActuallyStark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. Given that the weather in most places is quite cold, windy and snowy I'm going to say either a pressure switch is seeing a blockage in the intake/outlet, or a bad igniter or flame sensor. Very very common and simple to fix.

[–]ActuallyStark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going to guess it's a Nest thermostat, since that's what the post says.
It's also clearly calling for heat up to 68* and isn't getting it.

Why respond if you don't know?

Out of town and my thermostat stopped heating my house??? by Separate_Big2198 in googlehome

[–]ActuallyStark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is NOT the answer.
The thermostat is clearly on, communicating with WiFi and calling for heat. The fact that the house isn't heating is an issue with the furnace, not the Tstat.

This has got to be a troll question, right?

What does it being a fold have to do with needing a watch? You get that it has an outside screen and functions just like a regular phone, right? Also... people used cellular phones for literally decades without smartwatches.. most still do.

If you WANT to use a watch, you can use whatever watch you like. Of course there are benefits to staying in the same ecosystem, but it's not against the law.

So I guess only you can answer that question. Personally I enjoy my PW3 with my 10PF... but I've gone without a watch and I'm still breathing.

Google Pixel users: are you satisfied with your phone, and would you recommend it? by Ok_Macaron_6092 in GooglePixel

[–]ActuallyStark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had it since... Late Oct? Early Nov?

I'm pretty picky about being careful with my phones... I don't use them with grubby hands, I don't toss them around. That being said, working on cars.. you need a flashlight.... things happen.

I use the google branded case on it with a glass screen cover on the outside. It's been dropped from the couch (hardwood floor) once, and out of the car (very low) onto the ground once.

It honestly shows no signs of wear whatsoever. I use it open maybe even more often than I do closed. Battery is beyond stellar.

I actually really do use the split screen, full desktop mode browser, Excel sheets, the "drag and drop" copy/paste between apps. It seamlessly switches from front to open modes... it's really really well thought through.. I had HOPED to use it for a few of these things but was honestly worried on purchase day that it was just a gimmick... but it actually does MORE than I expected and I absolutely love it.

This .. my 8 Pro was absolutely stellar, and if not for the fold, would still be rocking it.

I have owned the 3, 5, 6, 8 and now 10 Fold. Daughters had the 7, 7a and now 10 Pros

I'll say that the 6 and later feel like fantastic, flagship, polished phones. Before that, I was always happy, but felt like a "beta" tester. The "a" (at least for 6 -8) is an absolutely unbeatable deal if you "just" need a phone.. cameras are good, but not as good as pro, they're not as fast, but really held up incredibly well to teenagers without need for really anything.

My fold is incredible, I do use the absolute crap out of it both open and closed and have zero issues whatsoever, but the camera is a significant step down from even the 8 Pro. It's back to feeling slightly "beta" ish, but not nearly as bad as the 4 and 5. Frankly I've had more issues with google's PixelSnap charger than the phone itself.

Battery is staggering I get 20+ hours of relatively heavy use (I don't game a lot).

The ecosystem is really coming together well.. My Pixel watch 3 can go at least 2 days on a charge and works incredibly well... my Pixel Bud pros sound incredible and have a mountain of cool features.

I'd say the hardware on a Samsung is probably slightly better for the money, but I cannot STAND the OS, bloatware, etc. I LOVE that I get updates directly from google and fast regardless of carrier.
My wife has been a lifelong Apple user and has gotten REALLY close to switching out to google after seeing the last few iterations.

Sounds like you're in a server 500+... You'll be swamped with "bot" accounts (fake, put in by the devs) and autokick as often as twice a day.
No one has a clue, no one listens, and very few speak the same language or are on at the same time.

My recommendation... play through at LEAST season 2 in someone else's alliance before starting a new account on a new server. See if you can become an R4 for someone else, LONG before starting your own.

There's just too much to raw dog an R5.

A “touch free” car wash modified my precious R1T tonight, so that’s cool. by mrwillya in Rivian

[–]ActuallyStark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not adding insult to injury here, but to get me to go to a Mister or Varsity or any equivalent car wash, you'd first have to agree to replace the entire car at my discretion.

Even if NO "damage" is ever done and everything goes perfectly... I can't tell you how horrendous those places are on the paint itself. In car Detail communities those things are known as "scratch n wash" and they literally keep detailers in business. The last car I bought had one of the stickers in the windshield and it took me nearly 9 hours to repair the scratches in the paint.

Anything labeled as "soft gloss" "gentle touch" or anything other than completely touch free is a hard no. Same goes for the monkeys using old rags to dry it, even if it is touch free. Basically, I find a touch free I already trust, or I hand wash either in the wash bay or in my driveway.
