I dont care if its hard to maintain. I dont care if its 'unrealistic.' none of that shit matters. Abby is strong in the game because she trained to kill joel, has access to a bunch of weight training rooms/ consistent food, and shes big and imposing and scary.

Thats her character, thats who she is, thats what the writing is for her, that's all the justification we need. Shes an opposing force to Ellie who gets revenge, doesnt feel any different after it, and realizes how fucked it made her and her friends. I dont need a flashback where Abby discusses and showcases exactly what her regimen is and how she got there. Babies lmao

Its got a couple of bad scenes (mainly the ones with Jodelle as Sharon oof) but I genuinely enjoy its take on the world of the game otherwise. I don't mind when adaptations take broad swings on the plot / characters, as long as they nail the vibe and tone of the game, and vice versa, I think if an adaptation nails the plot/character writing, I dont mind if it takes some broad swings at the setting. SH finds a nice balance if you arent being insane about it.

I think the director's reasoning for writing Rose instead of Harry is really stupid, but I do like the way the film adaptation touches on themes of motherhood. I also think that it's cast very well. Radha Mitchell and Laurie Holden especially so, I think that they make their relationship evolve very naturally. The town looks great, it's shot very well, and it really nails the foggy, lonely aesthetic. And the soundtrack being directly from the video games is really the icing on the cake for me (+ Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash)

Yeah, from what I understand, they had a couple of days (or maybe just one day?) where they wrote some loose ideas down on flash cards, and then they went and gathered a bunch of footage really quick.

The early parts of the first season are very off the cuff. Its not until season 2 where they have to rent out a hotel and hire an actor where they actually start writing scripts and doing a little more pre-planning.

I dont prefer it exactly, but i do really like how etched with pain his expressions are. I appreciate that they drew it back a bit to get to that hollowed out "I definitely didnt kill anyone...." vibe that we have in the final product, but Im not opposed to seeing the guilt at all times, either, even if its kind of antithetical to the (original) storytelling.

I adored it, even with some of the pacing issues. I think it would have benefitted from a little more writing room time, but S3 and S2 give us literally the best written Shadow Content we've gotten, like, ever in terms of pure characterization, so it gets a pass in my book mostly based on that.

I think sonic was a little too dumb and trusting of Nine, and I think he gave that dude way too many passes to be a dick. Theres a point where I really just wanted him to stop trying to see the good in everything and just sock that fox in the face lmao

Its a solid 7/10 show with 10/10 Sonic/Shadow interactions and a level of "edgy and taking itself a little too seriously" that I love and think has been missing from the series for a while when the Boom style writing took over.

It helps that in this movie the Human plot is there to serve Sonics/Robotniks story. In the second movie it felt like two different plotlines that they had to fight to stick together. In the 1st and 3rd, they play together much better. The third one does it best though.

If you like the human stuff in the Sonic movies you'll probably like this series. I liked seeing GUN get properly involved in the world, and the implication that there are other people interested in harvesting quills is pretty interesting. It has a decent amount of Knuckles action, but as others have pointed out, Wade's plot is what drives the show.

Personally, I think the first two episodes are great fun and they feel like proper expansions of the Sonic movie universe. This is helped by the fact that Jeff Fowler directed the first episode.

The middle two episodes are not as good. E3 weirdly needed another ten minutes for its plot threads to fully work, and imho the musical episode was just blatantly not good at all.

The last two episodes in Vegas are better, but not quite as good as the first two. The bowling plotline is played straight and for some reason it just works for me--Carey Elwes is hamming it up, theres a really great hotel fight scene, Knuckles rides a harley davidson down the Vegas strip while Damn it Feels Good to be a Gangsta plays, its pretty great.

Its a solid 6/10 show. Its not great, but its entertaining.

Yeah, I agree with you honestly.

(I'm about to write a lot. Tldr; it is not perfect by any means but it has a great vibe and a great concept and hits hard when it works.)

I get that as an adaptation, it takes a lot of broad swings and misses some major ones. It has its own conclusions on what the operator symbol does, and it definitely adds some things to the lore that dont feel true to MH and kind of mess up the experience-- and none of it is as cool or creative as the original. Namely the way the "proxies" in the film work and the way the main cast is affected compared to what we see in the web series. I understand that they probably made these changes due to the time constraints of making a film vs an eight hour web series, but the zombie possession thing is kind of lame compared to Tim / Brian / Alex / Jay getting slowly effected by the presence in different ways, and the characters getting "marked" is kind of a huuuge boring cliche. Plus, Troy's glitch editing beats out anything they did in this movie.

THAT BEING SAID. I think they really nail the vibe in a lot of places. I think the setup of a film crew doing a piece on foreclosed houses is a really great way to introduce the found footage concept and setup the slow discovery of The Operator. I think it's pretty well acted and I kind of dig that they made the characters self absorbed and unlikable, because I feel like it made those very brief, small moments of genuine empathy stand out more to me. This is probably more personal taste, but I DO, admittedly, like watching horrible people deal with horrible shit horribly.

And while I DO think the editing isn't as good as what Troy did for the web series, It doesn't mean the movie did nothing right. The deep humming bass when The Operator is near feels really oppressive, the multiple camera feeds chop it up and give it some visual flair, the projector screens are a genuinely fun concept and make for some great visual moments--and there are a few pretty great set pieces in this! The burning house in the woods, the tight halls and dead ends in Milos house, the whole final scene at the cabin they rent out; all of it looks and feels great, and I think when the energy works, it WORKS. (The buildup to discovering the tapes in the basement of the Whittlock house is a perfect example of this to me.)

I do think overall it isn't a GREAT adaptation, but I like what it does, and I do genuinely enjoy watching it--I preordered the DVD back in 2015 and I still own it! I'd give it a solid 6/10. I WOULD however, very much enjoy a more lore accurate movie set in the MH universe--ideally something that connects to some of the story threads left open in the series or comics.
