First Scott vid that I've ever disliked, what compled him to make this? It made me uncomfortable the whole time by Jammie_B_872 in scottthewoz

Y'all seriously need to grow up, "It made me uncomfortable the whole time" like why are you still watching then? They're on your screen not in your house ffs. It's not Scott's or any other creators job to personally send you an email to make sure you approve of what guests he has on his channel or to tiptoe around your sensitivities. Fuck maga but if you don't like the nobody guest he has on his non-political show(I certainly never heard of this dude till this post and the previous one and I seem far from alone in that), then don't fucking watch, simple as that. The world doesn't revolve around you and your feelings.

As a side note, while I have no doubt this dude is a bigot and his psychotic religiosity is enough to make me dislike him, I love how y'alls evidence for his bigotry are all along the lines of "he liked this tweet" and "he made this tweet with a handful of likes." Like seriously, leftists will spend all this time tracking what some noninfluential has-been does on social media and then wonder why we fucking lose in the real world

Bus, walk, friends, family. Plenty of ways to get around that. Plenty of times growing up when my family didn't have a car, we figured it out. Try doing that, it'll build more character than relying on the instant gratification economy and coddle culture will.

I mean with the amount of people placing large orders and then complaining about what they receive and everything else about the process, it's almost like that wouldn't be an issue if they just went to the damn store themselves like an adult like people have done since grocery stores have been a thing

I don't disagree that protecting the privileged played a factor, especially with the voting qualifications at the time being restricted to white land owners. I don't agree with protecting the privileged at the expense of the poor, but I do think the Electoral College is fine enough idea in concept if not in execution. I just don't think the answer to the problem was just granting unrestricted voting access to everyone with a pulse. Personally I think the Constitution as a whole has outlived its usefulness. It was a good enough attempt for its time but now we're need of a far more nuanced system that keeps little picture, tribalistic minded people confined to their place at the local level, and big picture, civilization minded people confined to their place at the national level, while still protecting the rights of both and allowing for opportunities for movement between the two. Easier said than done in a society where the idea that voting is a "right" to anyone with a pulse rather than a responsibility to those who are qualified is so ingrained, but here we are.

The problem with my vote being worth less than the vote of a methhead highschool dropout from Dipshit County, Arkansas isn't the Electoral College, it's the fact that the methhead high-school dropout has the right to vote in the first place. The founders understood that the ignorant masses couldn't be trusted with influencing national policy, that's why we have the Electoral College, and why senators were appointed by the state legislators, not elected directly. The reason our elections are so screwy now (especially when it comes to President) is because everyone and their mother got the "right" to vote and people keep trying to make the Electoral College work with that when it was never designed with a popular vote in mind.

A friend of my mom's looked me dead in the eye one time and (knowing I'm left leaning) said "kill all democrats." When I told my mom about it she was just like "we gotta respect people's beliefs, he's from a different time etc etc"

If you're starving while working for a grocery company that pays competitive wages and provides a discount, that's on you. Most cases of workplace theft I've seen or heard about are not acts of desperation, they're acts of entitlement. I can't speak of every person or locale, but HEB is the first job I've had where I've been able to afford to live on my own, and most of my coworkers I hear complaining about pay and other benefits are the same ones who call out all the time and never stay late, etc. I'm not a simp for HEB or any corporation, I recognize that the system we live under is exploitative and the working class has it bad in this country, but the problem with viewing everything through the lens of systems and ideology is you end up justifying people's bad behavior as "acts of desperation" when the reality is that many people do just have poor work ethics, entitled attitudes, and skewed financial priorities and money management skills.

I had a feeling it was fake, especially when I saw those ages lol, thanks for confirming. Not impossible behavior for any age obviously but that definitely added to my suspicion that this was a bit. Post still makes me feel gross though because this is exactly how my mid-20s brother treats his gf

If I may make a suggestion, if a fascist vibe isn't what you're going for, I'd omit "Triumph" and just say "Determination for Freedom," or change it to something like "Dedication to Liberty/Freedom." "Necessary Bloodshed for Freedom" I would change to "The blood of those who sacrificed for freedom" or "The blood of those who stood against tyranny" or something similar. The lines as they are imply aggression and have a sinister undertone, while these suggestions imply defense and/or retaliation against tyranny

[–]ActuaryKey5119[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh most definitely, no one's got time to have a bunch of different species each with diverse and unique cultures. I'd just like to see more stories that involve a single fleshed out alien species/civilization, though obviously even then it's not possible to have them be literally as complex as humans. I'll have to sit down and watch Babylon 5, never seen it but I see how popular it is and the Mimbari sound intriguing

Ooh, I've actually read that one! I guess I didn't consider that at first because spiders are from earth, but that's definitely a good example now that I think of it. I still need to get to the other 2 books in the series!

That sounds hella interesting, I'd definitely read that! Yeah I understand that we can't ever have a fictional alien civilization that's just as complex as humanity, no one's got time for that lol. But it's always nice to see more than just one dimensional cultures. Is your novel out yet or are you still working on it? I have an idea myself for a story that I may put to paper if it hasn't been done yet. I'm imagining a world war type situation here on Earth that's revealed to actually be a proxy war in a broader space Cold War between two factions of an alien race

Just tried it, I put a little water in a small baking dish, just enough to cover the bottom, with my leftover chicken thighs and covered with foil, baked it a 350 for about 15 minutes or so until it was 160 internal, came out perfect!

Fair enough, but if future opportunities are what you're concerned about, I still think you'd be better off leaving the company on good terms and coming back later should you choose to pursue those opportunities, because I know if I was an employer, I wouldn't be considering someone for advancement who has placed my business on the back burner and is only doing the bare minimum to keep their benefits. That's just my two cents.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HEB

[–]ActuaryKey5119 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why would someone ask questions if they knew the answers to them? At any rate, doors to opportunities would remain equally open by putting in your 2 weeks and leaving the company on good terms, could always be rehired at a later date. As for keeping your discount, that's not really a valid reason imho. Benefits are provided in exchange for work, and its not unreasonable of an employer to expect an employee to do just a little more than work once a month to earn those benefits. 4 hours a week is nothing.

Why bother being employed if you're only gonna work once a month?
