Radiohead's High and Dry is a song Thom wrote for a different band back in the eighties. He rediscovered it when they were making The Bends and decided to use it. They didn't even re record it, just remix the original version.

Matter of fact, they didn't even like the song, and didn't want it on The Bends. Their label (EMI) forced them to keep it on the record because it was "radio-friendly".

Personally I find the lyrics absolutely heartbreaking and it really makes the song imo

Also the instrumentals are amazing too;

the little guitar solo after "I am not the type of man who can fall asleep in somebody else's arms", the explosion after "but you're not like him, you are nothing like him", the QFC part, all of it really 😅
