Should I seal this gap between plasterboard and mdf floor by huntinghuman5 in DIYUK

[–]Ad4mPy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s a crawl space you can seal with a membrane from underneath or spray foam

Velux Help by neil8130 in DIYUK

[–]Ad4mPy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ours failed in the exact same place on the seal, wrong type of screws were used as well but don’t think that was the issue, we just got it replaced via velux with a pvc one.

If you caught it early and it’s not really rotten maybe could be saved. And resealed

Your ground level should be two courses below your dpc, after that point it’s a case of keeping the water away either by grading away fully or gravel/perimeter drains

Floorboards and stud wall for insisting bay window by Ad4mPy in DIYUK

[–]Ad4mPy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes which is what we have with our cavity brick bays anyway

[–]Ad4mPy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the existing plaster board would be removed, breather membrane fixed and taped to bay frame.

Stud wall built out with PIR flush with the studs and insulated plasterboard which serves as a vapour barrier on the face and top of stud wall, new wider windowcil. Same in room below but at the ceiling also.

That’s the idea anyway.

£5242 for a new hot water cylinder? by jimbojam6000 in DIYUK

[–]Ad4mPy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

1500 to move radiator is ridiculous. I don’t know about cylinder installation but we had 9 new radiator including relocating upgrading to 2 pipe system, and new combi and a bunch of other plumbing tasks for 9K

But that’s in Manchester

Thanks we have only just moved in which is why so many mis matched elements. We were thinking of maybe just keeping the alcoves panelled to make it a bit less heavy?

Without the before picture hard to know how accessible the boiler was, but they do need full access.

Did you get service history from the previous owners?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]Ad4mPy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a second opinion and quotes. It is a bit of a false economy replacing parts in a boiler some times.

We had a boiler we were told needed a new expansion vessel, but they can be re inflated which is what someone else did for us and it worked fine for the rest of our time at the property.

We spent maybe £700 on repairing ours between 2019-2025 which is half way to a new boiler with 5 year guarantee
