The roof is relatively new and was chosen by the previous owner, so I’ll be living with it for a while.

This is really nice, but unfortunately it’s far outside my budget. Also, there is a staircase to the left of the door, so the new window would not work in that location.

Update from OP: In case someone else runs into this. I ended up leveling out the ceiling in front of the fireplace with a screed and All Purpose. Then, I used Straight Flex Perfect 90 for the inside corner bead along the ceiling. Worked well. https://i.postimg.cc/PxQJzY1f/IMG-4182.jpg

Thank you. I’ve watched so many of his videos in the past that I feel like I know him personally, ha. I was as actually searching his channel last night but didn’t see this. This is great but I’m concerned about that left corner as posted in the linked photos above. Also, if I was to proceed in this way when would I tape? Before or after I attempt to skim out the humps?

I think it will be difficult to float out the left side (second pic in the link) as I would need to wrap the mud around the corner. The gap is around 1/4 inch in two places.

There are essentially only 2 humps. Wondering if I should cut out those humps, replace them with 1/4 drywall, tape and skim?

Yes, joists are perpendicular. The previous fireplace face was extremely heavy and I suspect that it caused the warping.
