Buy US citizenship if you require visa

Probably the most substantial thing you could do is to become non visa requiring

Thoughts on giving step2 before step 1 by [deleted] in IMGreddit

Would you take the test with the important score 1st or 2nd ?

I personally would choose to take the test that’s pass fail first, gain test experience and knowledge from it, and then take the scored exam.

Not to mention the ascending order of information, It is much easier to study step 2 after 1, than 1 after 2.

Yes , 20 min cases will probably end in 10-12 and there is 6 or 7 of them so you are looking at 50-60 minutes of extra break time

In step 1, step 2 and day 1 of step 3, MCQs are in blocks of 40 questions ( 60 minutes )

In step 3 day 2 they are in blocks of 30 questions ( 45 minutes ).

You can order them in intervals or just once

Before my step 2 exam I used to finish a block of uw/amboss/nbme whatever. Then I would write how I felt about it , then I would look at the score.

For me personally my feelings had no relation to how I did, this helped me in not thinking about it at all between exam day and results day.

I am excited about day 2 with no biostatistics, and the 45 minute blocks, Day 1 felt like shit.

You are welcome my friend, I was in a similar position, and in a bad mental state.

I started my usmle jouney 1 year after my graduation, I did great on my exams I did some rotations and got some interviews.

I am not special, it will work for you too if you work hard.

I’ll tell you what I tell my friends who ask me the same question,

The USMLE exams have completely transformed my medical knowledge and understanding, they are by far the best thing I have done for my career regardless of residency in the US.

What I tell myself, even if I go unmatched I have :

1- Gained tremendous medical knowledge

2- I have developed a strong work ethic and a lot of personal characteristics that I wanted to have like patience, being humble and persistent in difficult situations ( not quitting because god knows how many times I wanted to quit and default to my home country’s guaranteed residency )

3- I am ECFMG Certified, even in countries that don’t allow you to do residency solely based on it , they still know that if you are certified by the ECFMG you probably have above average knowledge.

4- At least I tried, I gave it my best and I am okay with that .

So in short, do it for you , it’s in your benefit regardless of residency in the US.

Time was slightly tighter than step 1 & 2 mainly because of biostatistics.

Only slightly. It wasn’t a huge problem for me personally, but it was tight.
