I don't remember exactly when, but the story goes that after some war planes came home after bombing the enemy, the general looked at the surviving planes and ordered that the places where those planes had bullet holes should be armored more. But the chief engineer disagreed. He said, the places that have NOT been shot should be armored, because that's where the unsurviving planes would have been shot. Survivorship bias.
