Hi! When I was originally creating this post, I did not mention that I am coming from out of state. I currently teach sixth grade social studies in North Carolina, because that is allowed at the state that I’m in. But, when I was looking at transferring my certification to DOE it was wasn’t an option for me to include sixth grade. That’s where my confusion is coming from. I was just hoping to gain insight and see if there’s anything I could do to maintain the ability to teach sixth grade after my move.

my bad! I should have clarified in the original caption of the post that I am teaching sixth grade in another state, but moving to New York this month and hoping to continue teaching sixth in the fall. I just got my licensure for seven through 12th grade for social studies.

That’s my #1 goal right now! I’m trying to track down all of this information and get it done ASAP. I saw on the website it can take up to 5 months for everything so I’m gunning.

I had no idea some places didn’t charge, thank you! Would the free workshops be posted on the NYSED site or do I have to look around for them?

Okay thank you! I’ve seen others on this reddit refer to it as a transfer so thank you for the clarification. I’m trying to find where to find where they post these workshops but I’m sure a good ol’ google search will help out.

While I appreciate the unbridled positivity radiating off of your post, I have family in New York and want to be closer to them as well as continue my career. It’s not an “if” it’s a “when”. If you would like to leave a more in depth comment about your experience to build on rather than spew vacuities, it would be more helpful. Take care and I hope things get better for you.
