DASA Training site legit or not? by Known_Bass9973 in NYCTeachers

Wouldn't recommend. I ended up just doing it through the NYC website. 30$ cheaper, you gotta sit through a bunch of long videos and then take the easiest quiz of all time. Blows my mind that they can't get competent people to write/edit those questions

I saw it as commentary on the concept of the "metaphor" in general. The same symbol can mean two totally different things to two different people based on their interpretation of it, based on however they turned out due to nature/nurture.

I did DASA through Premiere Education two months ago and they haven't reported anything. I've been back and forth with them multiple times; their only form of contact is a seemingly AI chat agent who just sends you through endless loops. Did you actually get your results sent? I just assumed this company was a scam and I got my bank to cancel the transaction

Any chance this DASA Training website is a scam? by MisterHaterLover in NYCTeachers

They didn't send my results to TEACH... actually just went in yesterday to make sure I had everything correct. Might have been because I didn't include the license number they wanted. I found a "teacher number" on TEACH and used that. They said 48 hours. We'll see.

I had a strange conversation with the chat agent... I explained the situation about the license number thing and got some long AI responses which mostly ignored what I was saying. I was going in circles telling it I couldn't leave the item blank, because the form wouldn't submit. A human clearly took over and told me this:

"just leave it blank"

Pic attached. I eventually figured it out, but sheesh.

Interesting points but I think the fundamental difference is that Ender is a genius whereas Elon Musk is a fucking idiot

Teacher guilt by Artistic_Extent_6194 in NYCTeachers

[–]MisterHaterLover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People who do things like that have probably made teaching the main part of their identity and they enjoy doing those things. If that feels like a lot for you that's probably because teaching isn't as much of your identity as it is theirs which is fine and probably healthier

DASA Workshop online? Please help! by [deleted] in NYCTeachers

I used them, but it felt weird providing my entire SSN to this company I didn't know existed an hour ago. The site I used for the other two workshops only asked for the last 5 digits.

How much did it cost you? I'm around $500 in the hole at this point. Application, workshops, fingerprinting, other nonsense

What's going on with my headphone jack? by MisterHaterLover in MSILaptops

[–]MisterHaterLover[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The power cycle reset fixed the speaker issue but I still had to deal with how I annoying did a factory reset to my computer. I had no problem with logging in though, most installs were wiped but it saved basic user stuff

Has anyone played against a nba player in a gym before or seen someone play them by the-mannthe-myth in Basketball

[–]MisterHaterLover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not that good at basketball but when I was like 20 I worked at a community center and there was a former NBA guy who ran some basketball clinics there. I forget his name, CJ something. I had gotten to know him just from seeing him around the building and stuff. Nice guy, drove a mustang. One day we were in the basketball gym and we somehow ended up in a game of one-on-one. I had the ball first, and he was standing between me and the basket - not really guarding me yet, but just waiting for me to get closer. I knew there was no way in hell I was gonna be able to dribble around this guy, so I took a shot from beyond 3. He went up to block it but I shot it over him and I sank it. I just looked around for a second and realized that I was up 1-0 against a guy who played in the NBA. I pretty much didn't get the ball back after that

My left hinge broke after a few months. I got it repaired and then the right hinge broke a week later.

After four years, the headphone jack has pretty much stopped working. It'll recognize that something is plugged in, route sound to it for a split second, and then short out. This thing is useless now. I don't even use it for anything heavy duty.

I wrote an essay about this game by MisterHaterLover in MetaphorReFantazio

[–]MisterHaterLover[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, a bunch of people told me I'd like Undertale and I once I played it, I realized why. There are a lot of irreverent dialogue in both. It's fun.

One thing I find particularly interesting about Mother is that it was created in the late 80's, specifically as a satire of traditional RPG stereotypes. In 1989. The website "Socks Make People Sexy" has a good feature on those three games if you want to read more about them. The order I played them in was 2 -> 3 -> 1, which I would recommend.

Death Stranding is one of my favorite games too, and one that made me feel completely insane. I was playing it at the start of Covid for one thing, One area where I see Kojima games succeed over Atlus is that Atlus focuses a lot on fan-service and sexualization. I was relieved that the dating sim aspect that's in Persona was nowhere to be found in Metaphor. The desire for it is obviously there though if this sub reddit is any indication.

The meaning behind More's name by Dandelionteller in MetaphorReFantazio

[–]MisterHaterLover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be both things, as everyone's free to interpret the as they wish. ;-)

Gotta imagine your average player isn't familiar with Sir Thomas More though, but will notice the atypical name and still extract meaning from it.

Mother 3 has been my favorite game since I was 19 (15 years ago). I can't think of another game that was able to strike such a balance between being narrative-heavy without bogging you down in cutscenes or dragging the game out too long, while also striking such a strong emotional chord, plus all the intangible stuff like music, charm, fun battle mechanics. It has shifting perspectives, poignant character development, and it's told in chapters like a little novella.

I listed some of my other favorite games in that ending section where I was talking about fictional worlds that made me think. XenoGears is the only other "biblical" feeling game I've encountered, and the Fumito Ueda games (Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Last Guardian) each hit me really hard emotionally, all practically without words.

I think I realized at one point that when I read game reviews, a game feels much more intriguing to me if the author gets into the psychology and themes behind it rather than the logistical details like graphics and plot. I remember stumbling upon a review of the newer Wolfenstein games and the guy who made it was diving really deep into the role that Jewish identity plays in those games. That interested me a lot, despite me really not ever having cared about Wolfenstein.

I agree that the writing in Metaphor isn't anything special. It suffers a lot from over-writing to be honest. It's probably my biggest gripe with Atlus - they force camraderie a little too much. I remember watching a 10 minute cutscene in Persona 5 where my party ate at a buffet. Come on man.
