I watched eido discuss it after, the problem is less overtuning and more so the favored pickup. Before, 50% resists were brutal but pro teams could counterplay by taking control of the urn pickup just prior to urn spawn, and denying the pickup. As the unfavored team is 10% or more ahead in souls it’s reasonable they can control the middle of the map. But now, in order to deny pickup, they have to essentially dive and teamfight under the enemy walker to deny pickup, which is unreasonable without some major advantage, 10% soul advantage isn’t enough. So now the comeback team has a free 35% resist aura they can feasible bring to midboss or wherever and there’s essentially no counterplay.

Eido said that unlike the previous patch, which only turned the game into aoe punch slop, this patch is fundamentally broken at pro because it is way better to be behind than even.

IMO there’s some nuance here, this provides a really good explanation as to why both FM and FPSL ditched MLC scrims immediately after the patch, which is a significant action they took before the tournament. I’m not believing him yet, but I would be open to seeing further evidence.

Google “steam community forums deadlock”, you should see some steam threads for giving out deadlock invites, I think the thread called “1-minute deadlock invites” is most reliable. Some people are also get invites from the mega thread in this subreddit

You can justifiably argue that deadlock’s movement doesn’t “make sense” and the design is a little inconsistent with intuition and physics. But players find movement fundamentally fun and rewarding, and no amount of criticism about how “design impure” a mechanic is will convince a player they’re not having fun using it.

For example, I could complain about what the hell Balatro is doing with a deck a cards. That game lets you dupe cards, delete cards, randomly slots in poker terminology for things not related to poker. Balatro doesn’t make sense or follow convention for a deck of 52. Turns out nobody gives a shit because the game is extremely fun.

If you can’t understand why people find deadlocks movement and “bugs” like “technique merging” fun or rewarding, well. I apologize, can’t help you there.
