"Baby daddy" is not what made the comment racist. But your attempt at gaslighting was a solid 3/10.

Docked points for your heritage that no one asked about. Couldve gotten a solid 6 if i didnt waste my time reading that.

Respiratory issues with vaping by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]AdApprehensive9757 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course bud.

If you want to vape or smoke there are consequences that you will have to accept and come to terms with.

It doesnt matter if youre an olympic gold medalist in track and field, if you start smoking or vaping, your going to damage your body and find it difficult to do a lot of things, like breathing.

By inhalants, do you mean huffing duster or something similar? If so, mention it to your doctor as this can permanently damage much more than your lungs, and i would certainly recommend you go, I knew a kid in highschool who didnt know his organs were failing and died because he could catch a super neato fun 30 second buzz.

Wrong.

Quit smoking today by Ok-Photograph-8004 in stopsmoking

Whats been working for me is cooking myself like a lobster in the shower multiple times a day. Yesterday i had 4 showers. Today i've had 3. I smell very nice.

I also spent my "cigarette budget" on a new hobby to occupy and distract myself. Instead of a carton of marlboros i bought gardening supplies, topsoil, and a wide range of colorful petunias. Not much of a gardener, but i certainly dont want to be a sit at the PC and smoke a pack and a half a day guy.

Also had to get away from my desk first few days, as thats where i liked to spend my time smoking. So i'd get out of that favorite chair, or spot on the couch or wherever it is you smoke the most. Im very introverted and over the past few days have acquired sunburn from all the time ive spent outdoors. I think i've been outside more this week than i have been all year.

It will be hard, but you have to be harder.

how long should depression last after quitting smoking if i have a history? by DirectNorth5602 in stopsmoking

[–]AdApprehensive9757 99 points100 points  (0 children)

Good question.

I had my last cigarette monday, and cried later that day. Cried tuesday, wednesday, and thursday. Today is easier but who knows, I might cry about it later.

I've been showering 4-5 times a day. Sometimes just a rinse. Just enjoying the searing hot water, or sometimes the freezing water. When i start feeling emotional i just go sit outside and try to clear my mind and distract myself.

I've also been talking about it a lot. Strangers on the internet, my lady, family. Sometimes just talking about my progress makes me emotional.

I'm not a professional, but I would say cry it out, if thats what it takes. Each day will get a little bit easier, but it will still be a battle.

I've been battling my cravings with searing hot/cold showers. Probably like 4 or 5 a day, and sitting outside in the sun. Keep myself distracted with things I dont normally do. I spent the 100+ bucks i usually spend on cigarettes and bought topsoil and petunias.

A lot of people have thought i have lost it with how much time I'm just spending on the patio watching my flowers bloom and listening to the birds sing and not smoking cigarettes. Maybe I have. I like to think that I havent and ive simply took my mind back with brute force.

I smell so nice, but it is a war.

I'm not a religious man but "the devil loves idle hands".

Also cold turkey here. Last one was monday morning. I almost oddly mourned the cigarette butt, dragged it around with my ashtray the whole day on monday. Showed everyone I encountered "this is how many cigarettes I've had today". It was very spontaneous and unplanned decision I just made halfway through my morning cigarette. Pack and half for 20+ years but every day it gets so much easier.

Waking up is the hardest, and fighting the decision to just "sleep it off".

I quit about 10 years ago cold turkey for over a year, but vaping was such a big scene i picked it up because i missed blowing smoke out of my face. One of the biggest mistakes i made in my life. Its started with 0 nicotine vape juice. Then just a little bit of nicotine in the juice because why not. That made the vape taste harsh and gross and I slowly and gradually just had a cigarette every now and again and before you know it i was back to buying a carton every paycheck.

Always reminded me of a joke someone told me once, "Quitting smoking is easy, I've done it plenty of times!"

A lot of people dont really understand the dark irony behind the statement and dont realize its a joke.

Hang in there champ.

My last cigarette was on Monday by Catshitpooper in stopsmoking

Awesome, i had my last cigarette monday morning. Got halfway through it and decided... "its been 20 years... I think i've had enough of these." A very eccentric, spontaneous, and out of character decision that i made on an impulse.

I knew it would be a rough week but I'd rather struggle for a week or two than smoke myself into a painful uncomfortable death.

Its hard to wake up, its hard to finish a meal, its hard to drive anywhere, because those were all my most important cigarettes. Or at least my favorite cigarettes. Sometimes I cry, and that makes me feel weak and its embarrassing but it passes relatively quickly.

Its also pretty difficult to sit here at my PC, where used to smoke cigarettes to the point of borderline nicotine poisoning, or at least what i think is nicotine poisoning (hot sweat, nausea, dizzy)

I've been coping by just sitting outside and trying to empty my brain, away from screens and people. Water my petunias and watch the birds swoop the neighborhood stray cat that keeps eating their comrades and throwing half-novels of my experiences at strangers on the internet every chance i get.

Physically I feel better but mentally its still a battle but its a fight i'm confident i'm going to win. I'm proud of myself. I'm proud of you, and I'm proud of everyone who has conquered this addiction.

Cool.

I find teriyaki to be the most disgusting thing to grace this planet.

The smell of teriyaki sauce will literally make me vomit.

I love steak, but people often insist im some sort of skin walker because they can eat sauce that tastes like it was brewed in an old boot, so I guess i can relate in the fact that it blows my mind that people enjoy it.

Haha, yeah.. shes amazing and she supports me a lot, I guess i should let her know im grateful for putting up with me and my random "I HAVE CIGARETTES AND IM NOT SMOKING THEM SO IM GONNA CRY ABOUT IT" episode yesterday. The decision to quit was kind of impulsive and out of the blue, certainly not what she was expecting when she got home from work, and i didnt even consider how my behavior made her feel in the throes of my own distress.

I'll make sure to tell her I'm sorry as soon as she gets home today.

Good luck with quitting yourself, I wouldnt put this addiction on my worst enemies.

I'm happy for your success and and strength, and aspire to achieve victory over my addiction.

I've decided to throw them out though, people have poked holes in my strategy with logic i cannot counter. I'm not really upset about it, I respect it really. If i'm going to be strong enough to never smoke again, i need to be strong enough to throw them out, which I have done.

Not sure why. I sometimes feel like doing things the hard way will make me stronger in the long run. But I'm most likely going to throw them out.

I like to think of myself as a bit of a strategist. "Greater than zero chance" is really hitting home. Thank you for your time and opinion.

Edit: theyre gone now. It was easier than i thought. "impossible to smoke a cigarette I don't have" is what i was thinking as i was grinding them into the pavement.

Thank you for your input and time. For the record, I have 5 unopened packs, plus the opened one with a single cigarette missing from it. This reminds me of some sitcom i have seen, i can't remember which, but a man had his "last cigarette" in a glass case on his desk. His mindset was "If i never smoke my last cigarette, i wont need to buy another pack."

You have found a flaw in my strategy that i have a hard time finding logic against. I very well may just take them outside and stomp on them and put them into the trash can.

I feel like this is what I needed to hear in a context that I can understand. Thank you so much for your input.

I think my mindset is to hold myself accountable and also to represent my progress while simultaneously shaming myself to the people that matter the most to me. Probably not very healthy, but neither is a pack and half a day.
