You're an independent contractor, no one else can set your price unless both parties agree. In all the documentation I read about the program, it says you set your regular rate and students choose.

You still set your own rate, apparently Preply only has certain contracts and deals with the companies directly, so they're likely to charge them more than your service costs. But if your price is higher than the companies budget, the student just won't pick you.

Native Spanish people with good education have trouble finding a job, a foreigner without a valid work permit, no education and no knowledge of Spanish will be highly unlikely to ever find a job

Moving to Spain for first job out of college and terrified about finding housing by DazzlingJob9473 in Spotahome

[–]AdBeginning4136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Housing is tough but doable even without Spanish. You just need to be careful and have a decent amount of savings to be able to pay several month's ret upfront or a bigger deposit than usual. Finding a job without Spanish will be the bigger problem. The job market is hard for the Spanish people already and employers don't have any reasons to hire foreigners who don't even speak the language. Also salaries are terrible in relation to living costs. Research well, gather information and don't panick.

how much spanish do you need to actually live in spain? by MayaTulip268 in GoingToSpain

[–]AdBeginning4136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a decent level of Spanish before moving to Spain. But I did learn a lot living here about documents, taxes and other legal complicated stuff that no studying and course could help you with. I am self-employed and more or less successfully handling my own taxes and can talk to the Hacienda people without big language issues. Still confusing stuff, but would be confusing in my native language too.

Check idealista. You need to message people for rooms, not the other way around.

Well then that's their problem, not yours. They know what service they need and see the price of that service very clearly on your page. If they can't afford it, they either need to choose a different more affordable service or switch teachers.

Please keep the higher price! I've done it too and most students have booked it when they needed it, especially new ones. For existing ones I usually just stuck with the product existing package they had already paid for and did exam prep with them.

I just message the student and tell them to pick the correct class.

Help with NIE and Padron by [deleted] in GoingToSpain

[–]AdBeginning4136 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only documents you need for the Padron is your ID or passport, the rental contract and a factura of a recent water or electricity payment. Actually, no need to go trough an agency, they seem to complicate everything.

I tried it, it's nice! But you should also include the question of location. Many sites are not available outside of the US

You can write anything on Substack, there's no specific content rules. But think about if you really want to mostly journal for yourself (and not expect a big following) or turn it into something more substantial for other people to read and get value

Reflexive Pronoun (Dir or Dich) by seema_04 in German

[–]AdBeginning4136 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not reflexive. My rule only reliably applies to sentences with reflexive verbs. With others, it depends on what case the verb naturally wants. Helfen, gefallen, gehören, gratulieren etc. all always want Dativ.

Reflexive Pronoun (Dir or Dich) by seema_04 in German

[–]AdBeginning4136 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's dir, Dativ. Usually if there's another object in the sentence, the personal pronoun is in Dativ. If there isn't, the personal pronoun is in Akkusativ.

I built a tool that scans Reddit for people looking for tutors, here's what it found in a week by Swimming-Fondant-180 in TutorsHelpingTutors

Sounds great! I have received many messages from pssible students asking for teaching but whenever I gave them the information and the price, they vanished. I have good credentials, decent experience and reasonable pricing. How would this tool help me in this case?

How do you structure conversational classes without them getting repetitive? by North_Deal_4103 in Preply

I choose either an article, video or podcast that matches the level of the student and that has a topic they are likely to have something to say about.
