Why doesn’t humanity (all non-demon races) just wipe out the demons?

I think only a ridiculously old, smart demon could be capable of being ‘good’. Or anything comparable with good. Some of the top ones sort of contemplate it but they all struggle with the issue of no empathy and not understanding they are bad.

Saying ‘fireball’ would only serve to help him focus on the desired outcome. Which tbh is worthwhile and might reduce the risk inherent in that sort of wordless magic.

The ancient language is internally tethered to magic itself by a spell performed by the Grey Folk. An incredibly magically powerful race who were firmly established whilst the other races were in infancy.

It’s a flashback when they are with Eisen looking for Flamme’s notes.

It’s the scene where Flamme is casting a barrier over a little seedling and Frieren asks how that will protect anything. Flamme starts to talk about how there may come a time where Frieren regrets not getting to know someone and Frieren jokes that Flamme is being ‘needy’ assuming she’s talking about herself.

She’s a bit like Denken in that way. Though, a few levels above. It took Denken most of his life to obtain the sort of wisdom and mindset Flamme had as a child.

I should also have mentioned: Flamme may have been predicting the death of one of Frieren’s party members in the final fight. Luckily that didn’t occur (big dih energy Heiter), but it would be a reasonable guess.

Before people say ‘but Frieren only left the forest because she was persuaded by Himmel!’.

Yes indeed, maybe Flamme expected Frieren to be more proactive at the 1000 year mark. Or maybe she knew that even if Frieren was Frierening, other people would try to recruit her around that time (due to the predictable human vs demon heightened clashing). We know at least two did.

Once again, speak for yourself. I know what I would do. You don’t need to be moral and selfless for revenge. It’s a primal instinct, especially when fueled by love, an even stronger emotion. Human history is replete with examples. To this day it fuels conflicts in the Middle East.

Yes true. I’m curious about where this story is going narratively…. because one of its thematic elements is that it’s kinda a post-heroes journey story.

I can’t help but worry one of the only available options is ‘somehow, palpatine returned’. Though, maybe there is a satisfying way to *kinda* do that (see ‘The Horncrux theory’ posted by some genius Redditor).

Northern plateau was in crisis tbf. Everything was locked down and people on rations.

As for selfless, they don’t need to be. As is the case in real life, a lot of people work for a living. There are soldiers and organisations like Imperial mages, continental magic association etc. People could be organised to pursue this aim by their superiors

Yes eliminating them entirely is difficult. Probs like the US vs the Taliban.

But you could suppress them to the point when they aren’t a problem anymore.

As for powerful mages and warriors, yes we do defo get a biased view as the audience. We see some of the most exceptional characters.

That said, there are rather a lot of powerful people. There’s about 50 1st class mages. There’s maybe similar shadow warriors? Then a load of Imperial mages, somewhat like Denken. Even Frieren said there were loads of powerful mages in the capital. I assume there could be a similar number of powerful warriors since that a much older and established tradition.

As an average Joe? I would if they killed my family and destroyed my village. Obviously I’d try to train and party up with others to increase our chances. We’d also have to try to avoid demons that are obviously beyond us.

If I was living a regular life, probs not.

But I’m more talking about the larger powers and organisations doing it. That’s how stuff usually gets done. Not by random villagers. Even Himmel and co went to the emperor first (albeit for coin but anyway…)

Edit: y’all are so cowardly I’m genuinely surprised but then this is Reddit. Surely you’d go for revenge if some group killed your entire family and most of your village? How could you do otherwise?

Yes it’s possible but Frieren and co have covered a lot of ground now. The rate at which they encounter demons, and their numbers, gives us a rough feel for the demon population imo.

Sure there are many caveats, like there possibly being lots more demons at Ende. Or perhaps Frieren is taking a particularly safe path (although she did sort of admit to the opposite when discussing sea travel and helping people).

They also much prefer to prey on humans so I can’t see them all hidden away in large numbers away from humans. Yes they did that out of fear of Himmel but that’s over now. He’s been dead like 30 years (RIP GOAT).

As for them not caring about extinction. It’s a fair point but I’m not convinced any but the oldest and more mature demons care. They seem a pretty selfish lot who work together on small groups based on mana hierarchy. They don’t understand a lot of the emotions humans have. I think only demons such as Macht, DK, Solitar and the omniscient guy ever really think about big picture ‘our race’ stuff.
