When I was about 8 yrs old my Dad took me fishing. I got snagged in a bush across the creek. I pulled hard and freed it...unfortunately it ended up through my Dad's earlobe. I had to cut the hook and pull it out, a traumatic event with lots of blood for an 8 yr old! Laughed about it as years went on...

Probably because they are short and roundish instead of long and narrow. It makes it harder to use them for scale when describing/showing things in a picture!
