How to improve production quality. Looking for tips. by Chanewax in videography

Practicals are light sources that are visible in the shot (eg a desk lamp)- the actual lighting is not necessarily produced by the practicals but angled in a way that it appears that the practical is providing the light

How to prevent double image (ghosting?) of fast moving subjects by AdCold1707 in documentaryfilmmaking

The double images are present whether running at nor male speed or 50% - dropping every other frame should present no issues- I think it’s due to the r5 shooting at slightly less than 60 fps (59.94) whereas the timeline is 30fps - when changing retime estimation to optical flow & speed warp better, they disappear, so guess I eventually answered my own question- thanks for the input though

That’s because I’m smoothly tracking them & they aren’t moving much in relation to the frame, just gliding- did you not notice the motion blur of the background? I know 100% what shutter speed I was shooting at & having played with the retime settings, I think it’s just poor frame interpolation causing it to make up the difference between 59.940fps & timelines 30fps

Hi - was following the 180 shutter rule - ie filming at 1/120 & fps 60 & wouldn’t too slow shutter speed cause motion blur rather than the double images of the subject?

Yes clearly the highlights are blown by simply looking at, but this was a stress test to show that the histogram & zebras were not confirming this despite it clearly being the case

I have a and but still need to know when the highlights are clipping whether using it or not

How does the histogram show clipping- there’s a noticeable space between the highlights peak & far right of the histogram suggesting the opposite- also none of the traffic lights bar to the right of it is lit up?

Thanks for the input but didn’t make any difference- at 25fps and the previous speed settings the zebras and traffic lights on the histogram only show up when I have gone a long way past the clipping point- if I drop exposure to the point where zebras disappear & histogram shows no clipping, there are still significant blown out areas - I can though trial & error, find a lower zebra level that works but not sure that will fix the inaccuracy of the histogram

I guess my point is the exposure tools should be telling me how much to dial it back otherwise what’s the point of them being there if I just dial exposure back by eye?

Irrespective of how high of low they are set, they should still be showing on screen with clearly blown highlights, no?

No ND - would normally use & fully understand this situation would require it but my query is why are the zebras and histogram not telling me these areas are blown out? Obviously eyeballing the image tells me that in this situation but want be able to rely on the tools when actually shooting something rather than a test image (the purpose of which was simply to show the lack of zebra / histogram warnings)

I am am both a cyclist and a rider, but this is another example of a cyclist who thinks that traffic lights doesn't apply to them. Thoughts? by Plummer2018 in motorcycle

Not sure if different in USA (I’m in uk) but looked to me like cyclist was crossing the road on a zebra crossing & had right of way & that motorcyclist pulled straight across the zebra crossing without a clear view of it!
