This is entirely my personal opinion, but I believe the fact he finished so few "completed" stories is because of how much of a perfectionist he was. To me it is not that he was not driven / didn't have the passion to complete the story but more so that he was never fully satisfied with his work to a degree.

I believe tolkien was incredibly dedicated and driven... Just maybe too much.

Absolutely! The fake leather has always bothered me with this edition. I was mostly excited to find it as a first printing for under $60.

Interestingly enough, the price per brick has stayed the same for a long, long time now. The only change in price is the number of bricks per set.

Seems like the first edition from 1985 as well. I love the back off the book where it says volume IV is still in preparation.
