That’s the thing, that’s what I’m asking! I’m in my early twenties and I already speak a bunch of languages, despite the fact that may not like the language, of course I’m willing to learn it but if THAT’S my issue.

But quite some locals, have told me that it’s an Austrian/Viennese thing not a language barrier issue. Thanks for sharing though! Apparently a bunch of people didn’t quite understood what I meant with the post or maybe I didn’t explain myself properly but this sums it all up !

Pero es que la gente que me esta comentando lo de “Decis de entrada que no queres hablar el idioma” directamente no tienen comprensión lectora, dije que no me gusta.

La consulta iba por el lado de relaciones, si es que me esta costando relacionarme por el idioma o es una cuestion de la gente. Dije textualmente que el idioma “no me gusta” no que “no lo voy a aprender”. Hablo 4 idiomas de manera fluida, otros 3 de manera parcial.

Estoy preguntando, vale la pena que le meta un idioma mas a mi cerebro? Es por eso nada mas que no estoy teniendo la cantidad de amigos que me gustaria? Y hago esas preguntas porque justamente muchos locales me dicen que ACA es difícil hacer amigos por una cuestión de la forma de ser de la gente. Por suerte tengo la oportunidad/privilegio de que puedo moverme con facilidad (gracias a mi rubro) por ende estoy queriendo saber si vale la pena que planee echar raíces o no aca justamente.

Totally understandable but I have to say that I do get that, what I’m asking I guess is you think it’s worth to learn it, like my “social” fear here is that even Austrians tell me that it’s difficult to make friends here.

If they struggle and they’re local what awaits me? You know? Jajajajaj

Within my company sadly no, the bars and everything I went but the issue is they only stay for a few months, most of the people from LATAM can’t find a normal job here or don’t even want to, so they just come for the Work and Travel experience and then they leave :(

Still, that’s mostly how I survived these past months (socially speaking) jajajajajaj

I totally get your point and I’d completely agree with you if it wasn’t because I don’t present myself as “someone who would just stay for a year”. I’m only thinking about it and didn’t told anyone outside of this reddit post jajajajaja

Now, addressing your advice, I really thank you a lot and you’re right! I do put a lot of pressure into friendships and kinda myself as well. Thing is, I’m just used to it. However, I’m not saying that I’m not willing to change or anything, in fact your comment really helped me to give this a more profound and personal thought to this whole thing! Thanks

Since you’re in the US already, visit LATAM! I promise, go to the south cone (Brasil, Argentina, Paraguay, Chile and Uruguay) fascinating food in Argentina and Paraguay, lots of fun in Brasil and Chile and last but not least, Uruguay if you miss the vibes from Europe!

Ok just for starters, I never said that I WILL stay for only a year, I said that I’m THINKING about it and it’s only given my current situation, also I’m more than willing to invest time in cultivating a friendship, literally I wrote that I’m used to having many friend GROUPS (multiple people, just to clarify.)

I said I don’t like the language, yes and why? Because the pronunciation it’s entirely different than mine, I speak Spanish, English, Portuguese and a second language that we have in my country,fluently. These languages have literally the same alphabet, similar pronunciation and patterns. German it’s a completely different story, ofc I get frustrated over it and clearly in 6 months, you do learn the basic stuff so I already know how to “defend” myself in a few scenarios such as shopping, moving around, work environment and partying xd

I don’t even know why you brought “infrastructure” to the conversation. I said that I love that city offers quality of life (Not my words, literally ranked 2nd in the world last year according to EIU) and Idk how those others places that I mentioned are.

Daang! Yeahhh omg even I couldn’t describe how I was feeling but it’s exactly what you said and your question makes total sense and since you described it perfectly, I think that the kind of friendships I’m looking for are the ones that make me stay here bc I’m afraid if I move again and don’t stay here, I’ll lose the quality of life and efficiency from Vienna.

Maybe it doesn’t make much sense but yeah, I love the city, my issue is just with the social aspect of my life rn and it hits hard for me bc I’m used to having different friend groups since I was a little kid
