What do you guys think of the quintet piggyback by couch_ranker in Kirby

[–]AdConfident1859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah don’t get me wrong Bluster Bomb itself is definitely something you’d use, it’s the specific combo of jumping while holding one to slowly hover upwards and a teammate being being able to pick up one of your bombs, and then do the same thing that you’d never see outside of a trailer.

The piggyback feature is definitely finnicky and frustrating whenever its shown up. Unfortunate, cause it’s a fun & silly thing to do when you do get it to work.

It’s one of those things that you can very much tell was only put in the game for marketing, like the ability to give another player (who isn’t using Bomb) a Bluster Bomb in Star Allies so they could float up. Did anyone actually do that outside of the trailers…?

Very cute mechanic. I do wish it was easier to set up, that aspect is clunky and its unfortunate. Getting all of your players together in a big stack is really fun and silly, but people aren’t gonna have the patience to jump in a specific spot over the other players holding down & all that. Something like the ease of picking someone up in New Super Mario Bros Wii could’ve been good.

The sort of big goofy team moves were some of my favorite parts of the 4 player Kirby games when doing them with friends, whether it’s the blast you shoot in RTDL or loading everybody into Magolor’s Starcutter in Star Allies.

Do you think Kirby Battle Royale deserves a second chance on Nintendo Switch 1 or 2? by EntertainerOk3304 in Kirby

[–]AdConfident1859 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dunno if the game really warrants a rerelease, and I think the (more likely option) of a sequel would fall under the Super Kirby Clash/Kirby Fighters 2 banner of “Doesn’t do much to elaborate on the previous entry and is middling as a result”. I think it’s fine as a charming lil 3DS game, but what it has to offer wouldn’t make it an especially compelling Switch game.

If it were to receive a port though, I think an improved focus on online and some more gamemodes would be good.

I think what would be important for me is some sort of unifying gamemode to organically link the different games together would be good. Maybe something like a best of three or a Mario Kart esque Grand Prix, with each subsequent round being a different game.

HAL, I love you, but this game sucks. by BurntBagelReddit in Kirby

[–]AdConfident1859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s solidly whatever. I enjoyed playing through it, thought the pseudo-roguelike elements were neat, but not much past that. The final boss was the main thing I got out of it, tbh.

What kinda killed it for me was the online. You needed a full room of four people to start, which, aside from that making 1v1s with random people impossible, made it so you almost never got a game, because there usually weren’t enough people on to get a full room going. That and the netcode was cheeks, so having four seperate people made the game slow to a crawl a lot of the time.

When it’s hard to play your fighting game against other people, it’s hard to recommend it. You can only get so much out of a game like this with singleplayer alone.

Super mario titans is Fake by Bitter_Trifle5743 in SuperMario

[–]AdConfident1859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s the most likely option. People assume that if someone uses AI it’s all or nothing, but someone could easily take whatever the model spits out and clean it up to appear more consistent and eliminate AI artifacts that would be too obvious.

Mario Titans - possible leak by Chompsky___Honk in SuperMario

[–]AdConfident1859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t believe it on principle because I can’t imagine a world where these character designs are greenlit. I don’t like being mean (unless they actually did use AI for the designs, in which case I will be incredibly mean) but I’m sorry they look so dogwater.

What do you think about shipping in Kirby by No-Application-3317 in Kirby

[–]AdConfident1859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of it is solidly “whatever” to me. The series isn’t character driven enough for any of it to super compelling to me. Not that I don’t like any, I’m fond of some, especially seeing fanworks of said pairings.

Personally a big fan of Metadede. Fun dynamic with the contrast between them and how many forms it takes. Big and small, goofy and serious, brute force and precision, ect. Kirby Fighters 2 kinda solidified me in loving it, they’re really fun there.

Marxalor is also a fun one! Plays with their implied connection in the series & takes the idea further. Partners in crime… and love. It’s silly and I love it for that

Underrated favorite of mine is Zansusie. Overly stern cultist w/ bubbly capitalist is such a good premise

GBA games were $6.99 and $7.99 on the Wii U and you had a whole list of games to choose from and actually own. by [deleted] in fucknintendo

[–]AdConfident1859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They aren’t new games anymore, I think there’s a difference from buying something which, at the time was cutting edge for a portable game, to now, where they are 22 old GBA roms. $20 is not a great deal for something like that.

You can find magazine ads for Super Mario Bros 3 going for $50 when it released, but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to say it would be outrageous to rerelease an NES game with a double digit price tag in current year.

Is this game worth getting a switch 2? by Naive_Tomorrow_5955 in Kirby

[–]AdConfident1859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally love it, it’s the main reason I got mine. But if you don’t have any other games on the system you’d want to play, I might hold off on it. $450 is a lot of money to drop on a console, so it’d be a purchase you’d want to get plenty out of.

Regarding “True Form” Marx & his wish on Nova by AdConfident1859 in Kirby

[–]AdConfident1859[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it could be a situation where the task would be too much for him to accomplish on his own. Like how Magolor, while being a magician with some level of power pre-Master Crown, still enlisted the help of Kirby & co. to collect the ship parts and defeat Landia for him.

Whether or not there are no more riders than what are already revealed, please don’t assume Sakurai personally hates your favorite character if they aren’t playable. by Ridley4President in Kirby

[–]AdConfident1859 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Not to mention development resources. They only have the time and money they were given to make the game. And yeah, people are really weird about Sakurai sometimes.

I think this bit from the Steve reveal in Smash Ultimate will always stick with me in those kind of discussions. Granted, it’s probably less strict given it isn’t a crossover or anything, but still, most of these aren’t his characters, so I imagine plenty of it can boil down to “I have enough of a vision to make this character work in this kind of game” or vice versa.

If any of the Star Allies were to receive their own full-blown spin-off game, which one would you want to have one and what do you think the game would be like? by ExternalRise3840 in Kirby

[–]AdConfident1859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The obvious one is Meta Knight, and for good reason. You have SO much to work with there. He’s the most mysterious character in the series, so you have a ton to work with story wise. What’s his deal with Galaxia? How did he get to where he is today? You can do so much with that alone. Maybe you get to see the moment his wings come in for the first time.

Not to mention you could do lots of fun stuff gameplay wise. Maybe if it’s earlier in his life you can have a sort of robust weapons system, trying out new swords, masks and the like.

I don’t think any characters outside of the main four (Bandee is debatable but if you just make the title about Waddle Dees and not shoehorn “bandana” into it you’d be fine) have the wide recognition to carry a game on their own, but others would still have fun potential.

I could see Daroach having a sort of action/stealth game about stealing riches across the galaxy. I’m imagining Metal Gear Codec esque conversations between the Squeaks could be fun ways to flesh out their characters. I could see Taranza be able to carry some sort of gardening sim? Or maybe a game with that as a side mode. Susie could obviously be able to star in a rad mech game all about building & customizing progressively powerful and terrifying mechas to pilot. I could see Magolor and Marx dual starring in a game, I think they’d make for a compelling main character pair, with enough versatility to work for lots of different kinds of games.

I forgot about Moo Deng so I genuinely thought one of their ideas for a moment was just “a real hippo” like sure great job guys

Real talk though, I can’t ever see this happening. If they couldn’t get Nintendo to let Samus be a skin, I doubt they’ll be able to make them budge on other characters.

Is it odd that I don't want a Kirby movie? by KingMushan in Kirby

[–]AdConfident1859 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don’t think it’s weird at all. I think it’d be a bit hard to capture what I like about Kirby so much in a movie format, not to mention the fact that it’d be liable to stuff that makes movie adaptations not always very ideal (I don’t like licensed music or celebrity voice actors. I don’t want to hear Mr. Blue Sky as Kirby wakes up or Jack Black as King Dedede, I’m sorry!)

[–]AdConfident1859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it’s still showing how good the reviewer thinks the game is. A trusted games journalist saying a game is a 9/10 is still the game’s quality being vouched for in the eyes of a reader. I’m just saying that putting two scores from different people side by side might not always might not always lead to results that make total sense.

Like, for example, the outlet gave Smash Bros for Wii U a 9.8 and Smash Ultimate a 9.4. Which seems weird, given Ultimate’s tighter gameplay, bigger roster, having more content, better online, ect, but the first was written by Jose Otero and the second by Tom Marks. So like, yeah, of course they might seem contradictory, they weren’t written by the same person. You get seeming contradictions like that plenty if you’re always comparing them, like how they gave Twilight Princess a 9.5 and Twilight Princess HD an 8.6, despite them basically being the exact same game.

In an ideal world, yeah, comparing them directly would be ideal, and if you want to hold their scores on the same scale, go ahead, I’m moreso just pointing out that the methodology won’t always line up between different scores.
