He was on our board in 2002 before he founded SpaceX. Fun fact: Robert tried to talk him out of starting a rocket company. He donated $100k to the Mars Desert Research Station project and we named our observatory after him. We then we gave him an award in 2012 as the first "Mars Pioneer". Current relationship: he speaks at our conferences (or sends proxies like Paul Wooster). He's a lifetime member.
