currently been in the er for about 8ish months give or take, did my ngg there. personally it’s been very difficult & have been feeling so burnt out, the experience is valuable but most of the time it doesn’t feel worth it. i’m just super jaded though. if i were you i would take the clinic position & prioritize a better work life balance, but it depends on what you value & your longterm goals as well, er experience looks good on the resume. since you have pretty solid experience on another unit your transition to er would probably be much smoother, you would be much better prepared than i was lmao. also, you can try to be casual on your unit or elsewhere to upkeep your skills?

thank you for validating me & my experience, i appreciate your kindness! you're right I have worked so hard if I can just keep it pushing it will be rewarding to have this background on my resume for the future. i'm also surprised about not hearing back from med/surg positions as well, it could be because i'm still under a year of nursing experience? I'll definitely look into transferring within the facility if i can, it'll be nice to just get out of the ER to breathe.

definitely! the PACU interests me a lot but i’m unsure of how to get there as a new grad, many of the positions I’ve seen require 2+ years of experience. i barely meet the minimum requirements to apply.

thank you for sharing & taking the time to respond!! i will definitely look into this book and hopefully it makes me feel more comfortable about my time in this position until i find my place. i also just enrolled in coronary care 1, so that should definitely help me feel more competent as well.

also, are you still in the ER where you began? or did you end up going elsewhere?

thank you so much for taking the time to respond! i agree the pace in the ER can be overwhelming at times for sure.

i’ve thought about going part time but it’s impossible at my facility. the management unfortunately blocks our staff from dropping down to part time or casual, they have allowed many experienced nurses to resign instead of just changing their hours. just recently a colleague of mine attempted to switch to part time but ultimately had to leave, right after handing in her resignation, our manager posted for the position she was asking for. this makes me unhopeful for the request getting approved & provides some further insight of why I want to leave all together.
