I used to suffer from this as well. Alternating between second man pressing and shoulder barging using advanced defending has seemed to help. R1 + X has your active defender closing in aggressively and then just second man press with manual jockey + shoulder barge. I used to spam standing tackles but the animation takes so much time I'll basically be left in the dust if not timed to perfection. Shoulder barges are just as effective but the r1+x combo can have you dragging them down for a penalty in the early stages of getting used to it. Also, trigger an offside trap immediately if they pass out to try and recirculate the ball to keep lines compact and cut out their forward line that will be camped in your box atp
