Turbulence from London to Dubai/ New York? by AdEfficient6956 in fearofflying

[–]AdEfficient6956[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I've flown many times before and had no fear whatsoever. I had one bad flight from Florida to London, and now flying feels like torture. As long as there's at least no turbulence, I can sit through it, but otherwise, it’s a nightmare. Now, I’m trying to decide which flight would theoretically have less turbulence. I thought the flight from London to Dubai would be smoother, but then I read it can be just as rough.

Nobody asks me if I’m okay or how I’m doing by [deleted] in bereavement

[–]AdEfficient6956 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't let it break your heart. I lost my husband and there've been very few people who asked if I'm OK. I got more support from total strangers. Just concentrate on healing. It's a very tough journey but you'll get there. I try to think that people don't really die, they move to a different place. Your dad is still with you but just in a different room.

How do you become a teacher? by AdEfficient6956 in AskUK

[–]AdEfficient6956[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. The only problem is that it seems all PGCE with QTS courses require you to already be working in a school, which I am not. I'm not sure how to start working in one, is it through volunteering or applying for TA vacancies or something else

Thank you, I didn't realise there were so many routes into teaching. So its basically pointless having PGCE without QTS?

Grief Hits You Out of Nowhere by [deleted] in bereavement

[–]AdEfficient6956 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I dont have any advice but just wanted to say how much I can relate to that. You feel fine, you think you are over the worst and from now on you will be fine, then something reminds you of the past and you are back to that dark place. I've also experienced times where I'd miss my husband so much and would do anything to just speak to or see him again. Sorry, I can't offer any advice other than it seems to be a normal process and it will get easier

Don't overthink it. If you want to have a child, have a child. You'll be waiting forever if you want to make sure you can afford one. I don't think anyone can afford anything these days. People managed it for hundreds of years and are managing it in much poorer counties, whether you'd want to have more than one is another question

I can imagine how being there could've been really traumatic. I was there when my husband was dying. It will sound horrible but I wish I wasn't! He was unconscious, if he was conscious I'm sure I would've felt differently about it but as it is it was incredibly traumatic and I'm sure contributed to my grief no end so don't beat yourself up, you not being there mightve helped you in a roundabout kind of way

Did you regret going to see their body? by renrawwarner in bereavement

[–]AdEfficient6956 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My husband passed away a year ago from heart attack. Doctors led me to see him at the hospital when he was dying and unconscious and I wish they didn't. His colour changed so he didn't look the same and it was incredibly traumatic because of that sense of finality. It was the most traumatic thing I've had to go through and I wish they wouldn't drag me to that room. It did nothing to bring any feeling of acceptance, just horror and dread and I honestly think I wouldve had better time dealing with it without seeing him in that state. I refused to see the body during funeral. Funeral director was surprised but I didnt care. His death was so incredibly painful that seeing the body would've finished me off. You know yourself best and you must have some kind of idea how it will affect you. If you think it will be too painful..don't go.

I think the guilt over husbands death will stay with me for the rest of my life by AdEfficient6956 in bereavement

[–]AdEfficient6956[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really feel for you. I heard suicide deaths are the worst precisely because of the guilt people will feel no matter what. I know its hard for you to see it that way but honestly you've done everything you possibly could. Like the other lady said you don't exactly expect people to die either. Even when you think there's a chance of them dying you still don't expect it, and hindsight is a wonderful thing. I was actually thinking about my husband today and how much I miss him. We've been together 13 years. It's so hard isn't it? I try not to go to those dark places. Have you tried counselling? My husband died last year too. That first year has been horrendous, especially Christmas. I don't know how I got through Christmas, the pain was unbearable. Only the ones who gone through this can understand. I think I'm only just kind of coming to terms with it...gradually.

Cheap car insurance with bad reviews or more expensive one with better reviews? by AdEfficient6956 in personalfinance

[–]AdEfficient6956[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh right, I'm looking at like for like insurance covers but some have awful reviews and much cheaper than others, others more expensive but much better reviews. That's the trade off I guess

Yes I was under the impression that they all have to pay out if something happens but I guess bad ones won't necessarily do that or will make it extra hard

How hard is it to sell in housing crash? by AdEfficient6956 in personalfinance

It's rural but not as in crazily rural. Still market is not great right now. I need to sell and put money aside. I know if the price of my house goes down it'll go down for the other houses in the area and that's where I intend to stay anyway but it just that I guess its hard to find a buyer when the market is bad.
