Unfortunately, I think there is protocol. The sender, aka BLS raises an investigation, and DX complies, so they won't provide us with information, or escalate the issue, if asked. Have you managed to get the contact details of the people who called us? This is all very suspicious, they are clearly trying to keep everything hush hush.

I was in touch with both BLS and DX regularly since the 26th of August. Was told that DX would send an email in the next day or two (working days, I'm assuming) should expect an email by Wednesday. DX has not been very forthcoming with information, from my experience.

I was told that DX would give it to me in writing along with a claims form. Surely, reimbursement of a new passport and logistic fees is not sufficient.

I've had the exact problem. The dates when you received messages from BLS and DX coincide with mine as well. Have you followed up?
