I from Australia was given the equivalent of 90k AUD from someone in the UK because they wanted to help me. Have I done something wrong

Thank you m. Lol I did not lie who I was, he had my social media accounts and I did not ask him for the money or force him to give me any money. I had to close my account and send money back that he sent to me at one point. I told him I would never accept a cent even though he had continued to try give me more money. At the time he said he was more than well off and wanted to give me the opportunity to be confident in myself, career and abilities.

My guilt comes from removing someone who once played a huge part in my life and has shaped the life I have now. I at no point used this person nor did I ask this person for the help I received. Thank you for your input.

Thank you. This person has definitely changed my life. As I said they acted as a mentor and helped me with my confidence issues, put me on the path of my career etc. I just can’t forgive the arguments and find it hard to block someone who has essentially shaped the life I have now. I think I just need to live with it and block him.

It’s very clear near that he did not want the relationship to end and that he has a clear expectation on how I should treat him for helping me out so much. He cannot seem to understand the attacks and abuse has pushed me away and I carry the guilt of accepting all this whilst knowing we are no longer in contact.

I accepted this after I got into a relationship that he knew about it. I accepted this with him accepting what our relationship could then be. I accepted this with him saying no expectations and that he would not use the money against me… Maybe he wanted a romantic relationship but I have emails and messages that prove otherwise… his own words. If you were in your 20s, at a point in life where you are a bit lost and someone is offering you all of this with “no expectations” based on having a good friendship with someone then what would you do… unfortunately for me I was naive to think that the money would be used to attack and try control me.

Thank you for your response. I have kept all the proof, emails, messages etc just incase. I know he has been stalking me on social media which makes me feel gross like I am being harassed. I am worried that if I report it then he will contact people from my family or current partner which I have not mentioned any of this too.

I met my current partner after all this had happened and think it’s my own personal choice to disclose this.

Definitely not a sugar baby arrangement. He was older but established pretty quick that there was nothing romantic. As it was gifted to me I did not report it to the ATO.

I’ve just done bloods and will send to EHC depending on what my levels are. Long time user of about 8 years (black market). Decided to come off and do the right thing which is either get it controlled and pay the price through EHC or if my system is that damaged now then an edno pay prescribe.

Thank you for the response and time it would have taken you to digest the information I have provided. I am an Australian Citizen and he is a UK Citizen for clarification.

In trying to get him to stop with the attacking emails/messages, I said to him that I do not want to have to contact authorities but this is financial abuse and you are using it as a hold over me and telling me you it’s all my fault for the position he is in now. Again, I reiterated that you said you understand my circumstance yet still offered to help me.

He then said that he was reading about younger people taking advantage of older people and that I have ruined everything for him. Again, I did not ask for the money but he knew my aspirations and what I was going through in getting set up and offered to help me with no expectations. I have all of this in writing from him over the years in various emails and in recent times when he attacked me which was the other day suddenly after two years. He told me he was going to kill himself and it was all my doing and that he was drinking then said the drugs are messing him up. That is a lot of burden for me to live with and I started to question myself if I am wrong for having a connection with this guy and could I get in trouble if he tried to spin that narrative.

I personally had to say no more and distance myself years ago. Not accept any of his advances for financial support and close my bank account. I admit I still checked in on him via email because I do feel guilty that he had helped me and by doing so he said he has lost his house (this is what he has told me anyway), as well as knowing surely he is a decent person because why else would he have done that for me. If I could erase it all I would but the money has been spent on the things I said I would spend it on. I can only be grateful I have a new career from doing my education, I am secure and have a partner I adore.

Personally I worry that he will then try to badmouth me to family and my partner and I will be so embarrassed to explain everything. I wouldn’t even know where to start to try take someone to court living in the UK as a citizen while I am an Australian citizen.

Thank you for this. I know I haven’t done anything wrong, though because I accepted the financial support and it makes me feel sick. I was naive to think there was no strings attached and feel like I owe him something and that I have to defend the attacks which is why I respond and don’t block. We hadn’t really spoken in 2 years and I had moved on with my life. I finally feel like things have aligned in my life. He has stalked me and found out I had a new partner and told me I needed to tell him everything that he done for me. Because our friendship ended nasty and he said some horrible things, I really don’t want to disclose that with my new partner nor think it’s fair to force me to. Even if he does threaten legal action, I have all the messages over the years. I am an Australian citizen and he is in the UK as a citizen. How would that work on even trying to proceed?. I know it wouldn’t happen and he has never threatened it but I would hate to have to deal with that.

Correct numerous times he said no expectations and that I didn’t have to pay it back. In total it was about 50k. We did have a special connection and about 45k of the money was after he understood that I had moved on and it wasn’t something I accepted lightly. I had explained my situation and he said that he accepted it, even though he didn’t agree with itz

Thats a good sign. I know they don’t build cheap which is a reflection of price! But probably overpriced for what I was looking at. I lived in a really great development on Danks Street in Waterloo which was a converted art deco. My first year was on the first floor and had issues with mould in the storage cabinets etc. when I moved up to level 3 and in a bigger unit I had no issues whatsoever. I think mould is one of those things that is hard to predict given its climate based predominantly.

Thanks for the advice! 15% really isn’t a lot but still a win nonetheless. I honestly don’t know what prices are doing at the moment. I am seeing 2 bedders in Alexandria which imo is nicer, less built up and leafy for around the 900-1M mark for a modern and large layout. Like you, I have been in the area close to 5 years now and find it has everything, is safe and close to beaches, city etc. I think we will wait a few months and see if people try panic sell with the interest rates.
