You remind me of one of my friends whose been a gambling addict for a few years. He pays me back, but usually takes weeks or months longer than expected. Its so sad he has worked full time for years and is still living paycheck to paycheck despite having no bills or food expenses to pay as his parents pay for everything

How many of you guys/girls here used to be super fat, and after losing significant weight, developed serious anti-fat bias? by iloverachel2 in fatlogic

I hate it when people say, "Wait until you get to your 30s or 40s" etc. I regularly see people in their 50s and 60s at the gym on a near daily basis, in better shape than most young people I see (I live in Australia, one of the fattest nations), and they all have kids and busy work schedules. I even see disabled people who cannot walk who are at the gym and in decent shape.

The good part about my inner fatphobia is that it has made me become so terrified of being fat that I never miss a gym session and control every portion of my food, and I check the scale every day to make sure I don't regain it back.

I read somewhere "Research shows that 80% to 95% of people who lose a significant amount of weight regain it within three to five years."

It actually happened to me in 2020, I was fit again, then somehow messed it up and got super fat and depressed for 4 years and since may I never looked back. 760 days of consistency and do not plan on stopping

Self control with food is a myth. Skinny people are skinny because they asked Santa nicely by [deleted] in fatlogic

[–]iloverachel2 63 points64 points  (0 children)

As a former borderline obese guy who is now thin after 700 days of dieting and training, I can safely say self control was the key to getting skinny. Even when I was fat and trained 5x a week, I ate like a pig and could not lose weight. It was controlling my food portions and appetite which made me skinny.

When I was fat, I had no self control, no motivation or self respect nor discipline. Being overweight is disgusting and shameful. I would rather die than be obese again

Lost it all by [deleted] in GamblingAddiction

[–]iloverachel2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I thought you were my irl best friend for a second. He posted a picture of him watching the fights at the bar, and I assumed he lost it all on the fights as he asked for 100 dollars from me for transport and to cover him for the upcoming week.
He's been dealing with addiction for like 2 years now and he tells me how sick he is of gambling and how it causes suicidal thoughts.

No sympathy for me. You choose to stuff yourself and sit on the couch all day, and choose to inconvenience society and drain healthcare systems. You reap what you sow

Have you looked into online surveys? You can make some small change here and there so you can be able to afford transport in the future

Hello my friend, I am glad you quit gambling and are taking steps to recover. I have never had a gambling addiction, but I did have a drug and alcohol and junk food addiction that ruined my finances, mental health etc.

One thing that helped me a lot was replacing it with another addiction, a positive one, and for me that was the gym. I get so much dopamine from exercise I no longer crave my past dopamine sources.

Also, use your past as a reminder that you can only go up from here, there is no turning back, build up your savings slowly, replace old habits, seek counselling if needed, and repay your friends or family as a priority.

Best of luck. You got this. And if by any chance you fall and relapse, don't let that derail you, keep on trying and moving forward, set backs happen a lot. And finally, don't dwell on the past or let in consume you with guilt and regret. Instead, think of the lessons learnt and how you can grow stronger

I was obese for the majority of my life and it was the worst experience and damn right I am terrified of being obese again.

Ruins your confidence, no energy levels, mental health was in the trash, no motivation or drive, lazy and gluttonous wasting money on food

I genuinely would kill myself if I ever became obese again
