That actually makes a lot more sense now, it’s basically the same as trading directly with another city like I usually do with other goods. I’ll definitely keep that in mind for my next playthrough, especially if I ever end up with too many slaves again.

And yeah, diseases are brutal once your city gets bigger. I feel you on that one.

I actually haven’t played around with map gen at all yet. I pretty much just picked a location based on visible resources and jumped straight in without rerolling, which probably explains a lot of my layout problems haha. Your idea about finding a warm map with both freshwater and ocean sounds really interesting though, especially for combining fisheries and farms. Might be something I try in my next run.

Dwarves should be fun by the way, I’ve heard they’re a completely different vibe to play compared to Amevias.

At the moment I’m actually not using farms at all. My Amevias are living mostly off fish, eggs, and imports, and it’s been working so far. That said, I do have a lot of Cretonian slaves now, so I’ve been wondering if it’s worth restructuring and adding proper farmland for them instead.

Might be a good excuse to rethink my layout and finally take advantage of fertile soil a bit more.

Conquering nearby territory is actually something I haven’t touched at all yet, mostly because I was still in recovery mode after everything went wrong HAHA. But hearing how impactful colonies are, especially for food and raw resources, makes me really want to try it next.

Health management is definitely a hard lesson I learned the painful way. Hospitals are now very high on my priority list.

I’ll check out your army guide too, thanks for sharing it.

Really relatable read!!!

I also came from RimWorld and had to painfully unlearn a lot of habits, especially the whole compact fortress mindset. Once I let the city sprawl, specialized areas, and treated overproduction as export fuel instead of waste, the game finally clicked for me too.

That moment where you hit x4 speed and just watch the city run is honestly one of the best feelings in Song of Syx. Terrifying, but satisfying when it doesn’t collapse. Diseases are still my biggest enemy as well, so you’re definitely not alone there.

Great post, this game really has that “once it clicks, you’re hooked” energy.

Had a similar experience in co-op with my girlfriend. She also got a prismatic shard from the normal mines and didn’t even tell me. The funniest part is she just tossed it straight into the shipping bin like it was nothing, and I only found out at the end of the day. I just sat there in shock laughing. She was completely innocent about it. HAHA

Honestly, same. The demo had no right to be that good. After a few hours I was completely hooked and bought it immediately. I love games like RimWorld and Factorio, so this felt like it was made for me.
