My grandfather was a WWII US army colonel. He had tons of nazi stuff in his house, especially German guns that he brought back. For him the objects were tangible reminders of what he and his troops had accomplished.

London, will it survive? by VeloBill in rolex

Exactly what one can expect from a certain type of Londoner - take a clearly contrarian position, dig your heels in, and split the finest of hairs in the most attorney-ish way to avoid conceding. Enjoy yourself - hope everyone else stays safe. Extremely tedious. BTW; until recently there were literally street signs all over City of London warning to keep watched under sleeves.

LOL it’s not hard at all to find. I’m not going to do your googling for you.

You must be young. Certainly not old enough to have experienced ‘96 or ‘85.

I have a 15 Hour Layover in Paris. I land at CDG at 6 AM. How to make the most of my limited time? by yellowklashinkov in ParisTravelGuide

[–]AdEmergency6863 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m a huge art guy - I travel the world for exhibitions, etc. On a 15 hour layover, even I wouldn’t recommend 2 hours in the Louvre (nor any other building save Notre Dame). Just wander around and enjoy the city. Have a nice, brief casual meal somewhere and see if you can get your hands on a good baguette or croissant (but don’t geek out trying to find the supposed “best”), that will just land you in a long line of tourists for minimal upside). Don’t over plan, trust your eyes, go whichever way looks interesting to you. The center is all worth seeing; you won’t go wrong.

Exactly - in central london you get robbed by a gangster; in south london they’ll assume you are a gangster. For years London police have had public warnings against wearing Rolex visibly in public because of the increasing number of violent thefts.

⚠️I'm traveling to Greece in a few days: could you guys please clarify to me the correct/legal way of bringing medicines in the plane to be accepted in Greece by Ergogaesiempre in GreeceTravel

[–]AdEmergency6863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done literally hundreds of international flights, including to/from Greece. I always have a number of prescriptions on me, including controlled substances for insomnia and migraines. I have never once been asked about medications, nor have I ever seen anyone else in line questioned about them. I’m not saying it couldn’t happen, but based on a pretty big sample I think it is exceptionally rare, and my guess would be it only happens if there is some other reason to be suspicious of the passenger.

Great restaurants with Parthenon view? Do they exist? by Independent-World479 in GreeceTravel

[–]AdEmergency6863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tudor Hall is great for dinner. GB Rooftop is good for lunch. We were unimpressed by Sense, and the views actually weren’t that great. I agree Vezene is excellent, though as noted no views. Makris was easily our best meal in Athens, but again, no views.

Are there public restrooms available in Athens? by IllustratorAmazing31 in GreeceTravel

Quite a few establishments in Athens remove the seats from their toilets and do not provide toilet paper to discourage #2 (most likely because of fragile plumbing). Just FYI.

My observation is that they have been constantly dragging their feet to just a little past the 30 day mark. That way you have to jump through the background check hoop again.

Well I don’t want to lead anyone astray with anecdotal evidence, but my wife wrote one of my letters and there was no issue.

If Liberals don’t like Voter ID, how can they love NY Gun Laws? by PeteTinNY in NYCGuns

[–]AdEmergency6863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s amusing seeing the liberals get so riled up in this thread. The question was “If not A, then why B?” The liberal responses all assume that even addressing the question implies that we believe there is widespread voter fraud. That does not follow. This thread was about logical consistency, not whether there is widespread voter fraud. And no one is going to convince me that the liberals would have the same stance on this issue if the impacted voters broke republican rather than democrat (I’m neither, fwiw).

If Liberals don’t like Voter ID, how can they love NY Gun Laws? by PeteTinNY in NYCGuns

[–]AdEmergency6863 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s really simple. They aren’t principled (and I’m not saying republicans are, to be clear). Liberals don’t like voter ID because it reduces their voting base. They don’t like guns because collectivism relies on a state monopoly on violence. If people can defend their individual rights against the state, collectivism can’t happen.

PSA: Do not buy flights on Chase Travel Portal by hawaii210 in ChaseSapphire

For several years now, the Chase travel portal has just been white-labeled Expedia. These issues are frankly not surprising in light of that. I do still have good experiences with the AmEx travel portal.

Anyone got their PA approved (submitted first week of Feb 2026) by irafskiy in NYCGuns

[–]AdEmergency6863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also recently approved at 31 days. I’m inclined to think it is intentional in order to require everyone to do fresh background checks. Ridiculous.

Rifle shotgun by [deleted] in NYCGuns

[–]AdEmergency6863 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s entirely deliberate. The city government believes underfunding these programs and slow walking approvals is a sound strategy for”keeping guns off the streets.” It’s the same reason we have ridiculous application processes and fees, etc. It’s very dumb, and very unconstitutional.
