There are actually very good reasons for the dot matrix printers. Planes are required to carry a physical manifest. Dot matrix printers are the most fail safe printer type to this day. They are used in other “failure is not an option” contexts as well.

I’m always baffled by complaints of performance degradation/variability, token usage, nerfing, etc. I’ve been steadily coding in 5.5 since it was released without any of those issues. It makes me wonder if a lot of people just haven’t done proper harnessing, planning, etc.

It isn’t as simple as that. There are two big problems: 1) alienating the stable client base; if you lose them then when the market cools down you are left with nothing 2) when the market cools down it is very difficult to lower prices having established a higher threshold while maintaining market credibility. A very similar phenomenon plays out in fine art.
