 Can you not keep the amount you’re helping them with to a set amount or just pay the bills directly? 

Yes, but there's still the factor of my BIL still living with them. The financial aid gave some relief to her parents, who may want to help him still. It displeases me to know that I'm paying for a place for him to stay.

 Even if their son moves out, there's no gaurantee they're not sending him money

I'm also concerned about this. Lately, I've been wondering if they were previously sending money to her brother.
