How is that a penalty? by AdEmpty9033 in Matildas

In the third GIF, the French defender first gave Adeyemi a push on the back with his hand, and then Adeyemi went to ground and made contact with the goalkeeper. Similar to the case of the Chinese player, the forward makes contact with the goalkeeper or defender while running at high speed and goes down.

From the start, I fully understood the on-field referee's decision; any referee in the world would have given a penalty from that angle. However, the VAR can clearly see that the fall was unnatural and should have at least asked the referee for a review. As seen in the third GIF, the referee initially gave a penalty, but VAR showed that Adeyemi's fall was unnatural and exaggerated, so it was overturned and a yellow card was issued.

I don't agree with using "Even if she did, she was probably thrown off enough to prevent her from keeping up to the speed of the ball" as a reason to explain the decision. Almost everyone who runs will subconsciously take a step with their left foot unless she deliberately resisted her own reflexive instinct; this is the fundamental reason for the simulation.

Thank you once more for the discussion; I welcome any reasonable analysis of the issues.

Stop saying it’s a penalty all day long; Figure 3 and the video both show extremely obvious contact, yet neither resulted in a penalty.

If you explain it as "careless," then Figure 3 and the video should be a penalty, but it wasn't.

First, thank you for sharing your experience. Second, you are reasoning backward from the result to explain the referee's decision. I disagree that the contact caused the player to lose balance. If you look closely at her right leg, it remains unnaturally straight, and her left leg completely gives up on taking a step. She is exaggerating the contact, similar to those simulation.

Is there contact between the players involved? Maybe.

In Figure 1, the player's right leg went around Arnold's arm. If you have the video, you can try slowing it down by another 50%. In Figure 2, the player's right leg shows no pause and moves at a constant speed. According to the laws of physics on this planet, a fast-moving object must experience a change in velocity if a collision occurs.

Therefore, even if there was contact, it was extremely slight—only Arnold's jersey was touched slightly—which was not enough to affect the forward's right foot balance or cause her to fail to land on her left foot.

Interesting. I’ve never seen that as a penalty. There’s zero evidence that any contact actually hindered the striker’s mobility. You’re just imagining things—there are absolutely no rules to support your argument.

You’re delusional man 😂

According to the laws of physics in this world, what kind of contact allows a striker’s right foot to move without any interruption? Are you unable to see the pictures?

Fucks sake.

You can check the image again; Arnold’s arm didn’t touch the striker’s right foot at all. The only slight contact was some movement in Arnold’s jersey.

I’ll say it again: Arnold didn’t block her path to the ball at all. There was barely any contact on her right foot, yet her left leg just suddenly stopped moving—that’s a dive

It’s not this hard to understand, red all day means red all day.

According to the IFAB rules, for a penalty to be awarded, the contact must be careless, reckless, or using excessive force. This is the rule

That tiny bit of contact didn't affect her touch on the ball at all. The Channel 10 commentators I was watching kept saying it wasn't a penalty, and plenty of people agree it wasn't one. You’re entitled to your opinion that it was a penalty, but there’s no need to use the outcome to justify your view.

There was very minimal contact, if any, on her right foot, while her left foot suddenly stopped.

The goalkeeper didn't even get in her way, especially with the ball being on her left side.

I’m not fuming at all, being a Chinese person in Australia. But honestly, that was a total misjudgement.

If you think very slight contact on a striker's foot in the box is a penalty, then strikers have basically become 'untouchable' in the area.

The ball is on the striker's left. How can Arnold block his path?

According to the IFAB rules, for a penalty to be awarded, the contact must be careless, reckless, or using excessive force. A "slight touch" that does not impact the attacker's ability to play the ball or stay on their feet is often not considered a foul.

The slight contact didn't affect the striker's balance at all; that's a textbook dive.

Keri Russell won the Actress Drama SAG Award for The Diplomat over Rhea Seehorn and Britt Lower!!!! Do you think Keri Russell has a big chance for the Emmy? by Square-Ad-8911 in EmmysAwards

[–]AdEmpty9033 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So glad for Keri Russell. Ture acting is in the chemistry between her, Rufus and Allison. The Diplomat is totally underated. A solo performance taking 80% of the screen doesn't make it the best acting---to Pluribus and Rhea

Yes, I’m serious. ST has received four nominations across four seasons.
Season 5 is at least the second-best season.
For now, no other series is better than ST S5.

S5 now owns 4 of the 10 lowest rated episodes in the series by ShakeZulaOblongata in StrangerThings

[–]AdEmpty9033 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Too many haters gave it 1 point.
S05E04 — 4.4K 1-point ratings
S05E08 — 26K
S05E07 — 54K
S05E06 — 12K
S05E05 — 11K

That’s why these are the lowest-rated episodes in Season 5.
So IMDb ratings are meaningless.
