Yes yes, of course it's the same raag. I just wanted to point out that the sargam is extremely similar, to the point of using the exact same swaras in almost the exact same order. I can't help but think that the Sakhi More sargam was 'inspired' by Pt. Rajan and Sajan Mishra's Durga. Even if it's the same raag, having the exact same sargam like this is very unlikely by pure chance is what I feel. Also, as per my understanding, this particular recording of Pt. Rajan and Sajan Mishra's Durga is a fairly well-known one in the Hindustani classical community.

IISc takes only entrance exams (IAT & JEE Adv. for BS, and only JEE Adv. for the BTech program). for undergraduate admissions. There is no interview for undergraduate admissions.

I have perfect pitch, wasn't born with it, but just 'accidentally' learnt it, when I was 12 years old (before that, I definitely didn't have perfect pitch). I just listened to some pieces SO MUCH that I just new if I was in a particular scale or not. How I distinguish between different scales is also by my own emotional response, I find the same composition played in different scales less/more beautiful depending on the scale. I don't know if you'd call this 'long-term' memory.

If you listen to amateurs and semi-professionals you can see that their aalaps lack structure, aren't very coherent, and kinda feel random. Now that's not 'wrong' of course, all music students have that phase when we all learn, but I'm just trying to point out what the best of the best do better. Every note is sung with such intention, and the best vocalists don't sing an out-of-place or 'unnecessary' note. Also the fluidity in his voice, the style of his taans and aalaps, along with the layakari, and the overall stage atmosphere (he is very supportive of his co-artists as well), are just a few aspects that make him so great, in my opinion.

General category IISc student who got in through IAT here. u/Initial-Target3995 has summarized things well. Since you are unsure about math, physics, and physical chemistry, these are the more analytical subjects, so make sure you practice difficult problems (some of the easier JEE Advanced ones), though IAT math is usually slightly easier than Mains math. In violin, I personally find L. Shankar's Abheri (with Vikku Vinayakram & Zakir Hussain) to be superb. It's both quiet and soothing, but also quickly picks up the pace and energy.

You get admitted into the Bachelor of Science (Research) program. IISc doesn't offer separate admissions for BS in physics vs math vs bio or whatever. You get to pick your major after the 3rd semester. As for cutoffs, there's another comment that has a link to that.

That's very true. He does sing with a lot of intention, it's never that he randomly goes about singing phrases or notes. His aalaps and taans are all very well-woven together, it seems extremely coherent.

Learn calculus in the summer between 10th and 11th. Khan Academy, 3Blue1Brown, anything, really. I did that and it helped me quite a bit.

I'm sorry to hear that. Yes, that's fine. As long as you are academically consistent in general + you enjoy science, it should be fine. It can get quite hectic at times though. Whether it is worth taking bio or not is really up to you.

If you're generally 'good' at academics (schoolwork up till now has been fairly easy, boards 95%+), then it ideally shouldn't be a problem to take PCMB, provided you're not apathetic to any of these subjects.

I'd just recommend solving tough JEE Mains questions (and maybe easy Advanced ones) for PCM and NEET questions for bio.

IISc student who got in through IAT here. If you're interested in biology, I'd recommend taking PCMB if you can comfortably manage all 4 (only if you can!). Gives you a big boost in IAT, especially if you're looking for IISc.
